Gregory David Roberts. Read Shantaram. He claims the book is a novel, but it follows his life so closely you cannot tell which part is fiction. Read it. It makes you think. Not just about the author's amazing story but about globalism, the complexity theory, and our values.
Don't be daunted by the length, it's a page turner.
