Example: I just read in the paper of this family in which the kids are named; Jaden, Jaren, and Jalen.

I'm sure their Mom, and some of you, think that that's really cute. I respectfully disagree.

I can deal with all the kids' names starting with the same letter which, coincidentally, is also the case in my above example. This, however, is pushing the bounds of common sense for me.

Your thoughts?

Thanks!

OBVIOUSLY, it's the Mom's choice! I know that.

If only for the reason that it will cause confusion later on in life (e.g. in school), it's a bad idea.

I think names should be totally different.
I have multiples and refused to have cutesy ones or rhyming ones to mark them for teasing.
I think some people need to rethink names like Moon and Reginald...just examples. I also hate some names with the old name game song.
Think of the poor teachers forced by parents to pronounce names and spell names that have no logic.
I remember calling out the name Lemon as the fruit and the person having a real fit over how they wanted it to be pronounced. I had no clue it was different.

That's a little different, but I think it's kind of cute, like you said some people would. I think it's really up to the kids whether they mind or not. Having names like that might give them greater sense of family spirit.
I know someone who has a son named Tyler and a daughter named Taylor.

I once tutored identical twin boys whose names were Joey and Joseph. Not only did I have trouble telling them apart (one of them had a small mole on his neck), but I could never remember which one had the mole because they had THE SAME DAMN NAME.

Parents have either become so stupid that they can't be bothered to think of individual names, or they've decided to treat their kids like dogs by giving them cutesy matching names. Actually, it reminds me of Donald Duck's nephews: Huey, Dewey and Louie.

I personally think that it's lame, as is having five kids and the names all start with the same letter, but if that's your thing so be it. I learned to be careful about what you say about people's parenting decisions on here, parents can be brutal.

Well, I sort of agree with you, I would always mess up my kids names if I were the parent of them. But I also don't think their names should matter to anyone but their family. And if their family is happy with their names, then thats great.

I think the mom is free to choose whatever names she actually likes. Its cute, not tacky. However, I do beleive that their school teachers must get confused because (if they are all in the same class) they must get mixed up all the time. But still, it was the mothers choice and she is free to do whatever she pleases when it comes to naming HER children.

I agree, it is really dumb. What ever happened to classic names and Family names. Winston.

If you read "Tipping point" by stephen levitt there is a reference to the odd naming of children.
One woman named her kids "Orange-jello" and "Lemon-jello"

after you have that many kids, you have to do roll call before you get to the one you want anyway...why not have them all sound alike, so they all answer the first time?!?!

(and just for the record, i do believe each child should have a name that is unique and their own.)
