Since there are so many retarded questions about this rookie who has done NOTHING yet, and is not going to be as good as everyone thinks. Let's put a REAL question up. I say Ellsbury has an average season of .285 w/ 10 HR and 40-50 RBIs. He'll steal 20-40 bases a couple times in his career, but he'll basically be a Coco Crisp, or Shannon Stewart clone. At best he will be platooning or doing the Juan Pierre thing.

Career stats: 15 years .277 BA 159 HR 688 RBI 900 Runs 316 SB and possibly a Gold Glove. The last 5 years of his career he'll be getting less than 400AB's a season and he'll fade away into nothingness.

Who out there thinks Ellsbury is WAYYYYYY overhyped and the Red Sux are in for a big letdown. There are tons of better young athletes out there like Yvonni Gallardo, Tim Lincecum, BJ Upton, and Evan Longoria to name just a few. Just because it's Boston people on jumping on the bandwagon that's bound to collapse.

Who else sees the obvious?

Looking for unbiased answers. Red Sux fans don't count. You all have an illegitamate hard-on for him. I'm looking for expert baseball impartial analysis like my own. Tampa Bay and the Marlins have much better systems than the Red Sux. Not to mention the Braves and obviously now we've got to consider the Rockies up there too.

As I thought. Only Red Sux fan's are the only ones who look at Ellsbury. The rest of the world knows he's a bust. Remember this question a couple years from now. :)

And FYI I'm not a biased Yankee fan. I love the Yankees, but I think Cashman is a liability and we got what we deserved because we sign aging stars past their prime for too much money. I root for the Cubs and I picked the Marlins to beat the Yanks in 2003.

So thank you for proving my point. You are all jaded by 2 little rings. Yankees are best organization in sports history. The Red Sux aren't even the best in their own sport.

Please grow up and admit 2 rings doesn't compare to the Yankees and leave it to you to change the subject to me being a Yankee fan. This was a talent evaluation, not a blast against the Red Sux. I'll call them what I want and you need to learn respect for your superiors.

Some facts about Jacoby Ellsbury for you to think about over the next few years while you watch him, and the Red Sox win a few more WS titles.....

He was rated as the #33 prospect for 2007 by Baseball America.

He was named the fastest baserunner in the International League by Baseball America.

He started the 2007 season as the Double A Portland Sea Dogs' starting center fielder, and was promoted to the Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox on May 4 2007 after batting .452 in 17 games at Portland.

Jacoby set a new consecutive game hitting streak record for Pawtucket on August 24, 2007, besting the mark that had been held by both Dave Stapleton and Dave Berg at 19 consecutive games. His streak ended at 25 games on August 31 with an 0-4 outing.

He finished the Triple A season tied for second in the International League with Darnell McDonald of the Rochester Red Wings in stolen bases at 33, only 1 behind leader Bernie Castro of the Columbus Clippers. It should be noted however, that while Castro has 34 steals in 118 games and McDonald had 33 steals in 134 games, Jacoby reached 33 steals in only 87 games.

Ellsbury started the 2007 season on the Red Sox AA team and made it all the way up to the World Series! and he did really well on the Red Sox! in one of the world series games he was 4-4 and hit well through the rest of the games.....plus he is great defensively too and has made some great catches that no one else on the team would have been able to make and he is BY FAR the fastest guy on the team and could probably steal any time he wants to and has already stole a few times that helped the team win! he is great and will absolutely NOT fade into "nothingness"!!!
*oh yeah and by the way he provided free tacos for everyone in America so you should like him =]

Expert impartial baseball analysis? If C-Note is an impartial expert, then I have discovered a cure for cancer.

The Juan Pierre thing? Well...Ellsbury has as many World Series rings...he actually has a throwing arm...steal bases at a more frequent rate of percentage...has extra base power...gets on base more than 31% of the time...

And, isn't it amazing in this Yankee fan's "expert impartial analysis", he would include only one outfielder among the five "examples" of guys who are tons better athletes than Jacoby Ellsbury, too?

Oh well...it was a valiant effort, but I still only give it a 7.

Take a look at Ellsbury's minor league stats: http://minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=4378

That's pretty darn good, shows progression as he gets older, and he's still only 23 -- good (not great, but good) age to crack the majors. He's still a year or two (on average) from full physical maturity, and some of those doubles -- good doubles power -- will turn into homers.

I can easily see four All-Star selections, including one or two elected starts; the 2008 AL ROY Award; maybe even an MVP around 2013. Ellsbury and Pedrioa could be the best two-man Red Sox rookie harvest since Burks-Greenwell, if not Lynn-Rice. (Yes, way better than Vaughn-Plantier.)

judging by your other answers you are another jaded Yankee fan trying to come to grips with yet another Yankee losing season.
It must be very frustrating for you to see amazing record breaking talent come up from the (2007 voted best in the major leagues) award winning RED SOX farm system year after year while your Yankees hang their hats & futures on 3 pitchers who are mediocre at best. Kennedy & Hughes will most likely either be traded, the fate of most Yankee prospects, because if they're not they will most likely go slightly above or below .500 this season. Joba will probably be slightly better but only if he stays a reliever, if he becomes a starter he will end up Like Felix Hernandez of the MARINERS w/ alot of power early on but when the major league hitters see him a few times they'll see he doesn't have much more than a fast ball and start taking him out of the park...like the RED SOX have already done by the end of 2007.
Jacoby Ellsbury like Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, Hanley Ramirez, Johnathan Papelbon, Clay Buchholtz, Jon Lester, Manny Delcarmen, Curt Schilling & Roger Clemens are all players who were made great by the RED SOX farm system and your rediculious generalzations of them are laughable.

And your source is?????????? I see the obvious and that is your a sore loser! Come on give the kid, yes I said kid, a break. He got called up late in the season to play in the major league. He obviously proved himself to the team, the manager, the owner, the fans, because they kept him on and included him on the roster for the World Series. Not bad I'd say, Of course he has stats that don't meet up with others, look at those others though, they are for a full season while Jacoby's isn't and his is even better than some of those! Unfortunate for you but I'm sure everyone will be hearing alot more about Jacoby Ellsbury for years to come! Dare you to eat your words , this time next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the reason he is hyped is because he goes out and puts 110% into everything. Who is to say he is gonna hit .277? during the year in only 116 ABs had 41 hits and was a monster on the bases going a perfect 9/9. He alos has incredible instinct in the outfield and is one of the better fielders in the AL. He has great range, an ok arm, but makes up for it with his hustle and drive.

maybe not next years starter but a future starter and future all-star

Jacoby Ellsbury hasn't been playing for long enough for you to say he's not going to be a success or for me to say he's going to be a baseball phenomenon. He has a .353 average in playing for only a short time, he can field well and will likely be replacing Coco Crisp in center field. He runs bases super fast, too. He's got a lot to prove to us, but after his amazing contribution in the World Series, I would say he deserves the hype. I'm looking forward to see how he and fellow rookie, Dustin Pedroia do this upcoming season, and I have a feeling that Red Sox fans won't be disapointed in either of them. Wait before you say Ellsbury's career isn't going anywhere...Jacoby Ellsbury has potential, that's something we all can see.

PS. Calling the Red Sox "Red Sux" makes you sound very immature and childish. Jealous Red Sox haters are really very humorous.

I think you are the only one that thinks that Jacoby Ellsbury is over hyped...

Time to get outta yr fantasy world bud.

edit: the red sox have more than 2 rings moron... that's just how many they have since the last time the yankees were even in the world series.

are you serious? Were you not watching the game where rookies Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsbury, who went a combined 7-for-10 with 2 RBIs a piece at the top of the order.
