I see your point, on the other hand I've had so many relatives die from smoke related causes and alchol related ones that I am indifferent on the matter.

My mother died from COPD at the age of 64! Two of her brothers died from cirrhosis of the liver one at 59 and the other at 66.

They lived during a time when these things were considered very cool to do. Now the message is the opposite and I think it's good for our young people. Maybe they'll make better choices if the stigma is negative on excess.

It's not cool to die by slowly suffocating and it's not cool to have liver failure

know you ought to know that our government does these things because they really CARE about YOU ! and your ability to pay taxes. they will play both sides - the company will pay to keep it legal (lobbyists) AND they will pass along stiffer taxes to the consumer

it's always about the money changing hands. follow the money you will always know north from south .

Our freedoms are being eroded . I think Americans are competent and can self manage behavior .

Obviously the government wants to expand every potential revenue avenue.

Now get this one ... you want to leave / retire America become citizen in another country. You would expect to be able to "cash out " and leave. Pay taxes in whatever country you decide you want to live in. Doesn't work that way ... you are going to be limited to 80 K per year to take out of the country and you will be taxed for 10 TEN YEARS after you are no longer citizen. It's designed law specifically to try to keep citizens stuck in the US and control our hard earned dollars and retirement accounts. You will pay US taxes AND your taxes in the the new country you reside in. DOUBLE TAXATION. 10 year tax liability penalty for deciding you no longer want to reside in the land of the "FREE" and home of the brave . LOL

I hear you , regarding the cowards . Not too many citizens with much stand up left . New generation just accepts it all is indifferent.

I love it. They say they are making us healthier by raising the taxes on cigarettes. The money will go to Kids programs. Why not go where the health issues are and tax the hell out of fast food? Gee, they even make it illegal for the schools to tell a parent his kid is obese. Guess thats one way to hide the facts.

The government knows what's best for us - didn't they tell you? The average American is way too dumb to make good decisions for themselves....so the nanny state will make them for us!
