I'm thinking of buying a used 2000 Escalade. My father is trying to talk me out of it because the parts are more expensive and the repair costs and maintence are higher. Are they? My guess is not because it's a GM.

all trim and body and fender repairs will be more expensive. mechanical repairs will be the same as any other g.m. truck because that's all it is.

Cost Of Cadillac Escalade

If you want authentic Cadillac/GM parts then yes. Aftermarket parts aren't so expensive but can be pricey at the same time. I own a 2002 Escalade 2WD 5.3L and has over 284k miles. Runs very strong and good! However, the suspension system is a b**** to repair. Suspension repair is as expensive as replacing the Airmatic suspension on a Mercedes-Benz. I paid over $5k for the repair. Wonderful trucks and they are the longest lasting luxury SUVS on the road hands down. Only, if the are well maintained, wash and detailed regularly. To answer your question, on average No. Remember an Escalade can use Tahoe/Yukon engine, powertrain systems and 85% body parts. Do like I do. When I go to the parts store, I tell them I have a Tahoe just to have a better chance at price difference on the parts.

Just to give you an example... Two years ago, my classic 1979 Cadillac Coupe d'Ville needed a new water pump. My local Cadillac dealer's shop quoted me over $400 to replace the pump with "Genuine GM Parts." I bought a rebuilt pump at the local auto parts store for $65.00. It's still going strong!

If you stay away from the new car dealer's repair shop, and don't mind using aftermarket and rebuilt parts, then a Cadillac should not be any more expensive to maintain than any other used car.

The labor costs are the same while parts prices sometimes seem to be higher than comparable parts on Buicks, Pontiacs or Chevys. The price of parts for a caddy are definitely less than they are for foreign made cars, however.

your parent is right they are more expensive not just part wise but also service wise. It is like the difference between a malibu and a corvette both are gm but the corvette costs are far far higher

It's more expensive because of the name CADILLAC, parts are double the price of a chevy.

anything with the name cadillac is expensive to repair kind of like corvettes. we won't even talk about if you have airconditioner problems and that cost.
