Depends on who you ask. I'm a proud American so naturally I would see Americans in a more positive light...because its my own country, my own people.
One has to wonder just exactly what is the problem so many people seem to have with Americans. If we are all truly so stupid, so ignorant, so foolish, how is it possible that we are the world's most powerful and richest nation by far?
I would say your average American is more patriotic than other nationalities. I used to think at one time everyone was proud of their homeland until I started talking with people from other countries who are shocked that here in the USA there's flags flying all over the place.
Another thing is that in general Americans do tend to be more boisterous, headstrong, and plain-spoken.

They are as varied as any other race or nation. There does seem to be a lot of brainwashing from the media etc, to the effect that America can do no wrong, and individual Americans get very upset and abusive if their country is criticised.. America is not the be all and end all of a democratic nation.. It has it's faults as well as it's good points. I have spoken to numerous American people and have had interesting and polite conversations.. My sister in law is married to an American and lives in Texas...... Individually Americans are fine... It is the political and corporate greed of the big companies that people do not like... It would appear that a lot of Americans don't like it also.

There seems to be 2 types of Americans.. the ones who generally know about the rest of the world and have appreciation and knowledge and an idea that the US is not the centre of the universe and theres the other ones who have no idea about anything. The kind of ppl who think all British ppl talk like Hugh Grant and we all live in Castles and have bad teeth etc. Ive been asked in America b4 if we had hot and cold running water yet and if i had seen a car before... And they were serious.....

I think that they are the same as people everywhere! Some good, some bad and some need to learn that just because a question is written in the English language doesn't mean it's an American who is asking!!!!!! I get sick of being told how to spell r e a l i s e!

well I am American nd I do see some really bad things going on, like we are wasteful nd take to much for granted nd destructive. Also, I find some people on the east coast are pushy. But I want Europeans nd Asians and Islanders nd Middle Easterns to know that we aren't all rich nd spoiled nd some people do actually work for what they have nd are not pushy nd rude nd have no morals. I mean, look at the south those are probably the nicest people I've ever met.

I read many of the answers, and as usual I'm answering late. I'm an American, and damn proud of it! I know we have our faults. I just wish, that we Americans would cut all aid and support to ALL other nations of the world for just one year. That we would bring all our people back home to include all our troops. That we would bring all our jobs back home. Buy nothing off any foreign economy. Fortify our borders and not let anyone in or out. Not participate in any disaster anywhere in the world except here in America. In other words tell the rest of these ungrateful b@stards to kiss our @ss. Just one year! Then ask this question and see what the answers would be.
And to chrisvoulg1 just up above, if it wasn't for Americans, there would be no England and France. They would be a province of Germany. And you are not too damn smart based on your spelling! Plus, our government system is older than any of the government's of the three countries you listed.

That is a stereotypical statement about us Americans. Not all of us are the same. some of the individuals who post remarks on here are just letting off steam, while some just write what opinion they have. A lot of thins are based on their moral beliefs. When you stop holding people accountable for what they do then there goes their morals. There are group of people here that have morals and do not stereotype people.

I've only ever come across one or two Americans, one was a really good friend. They were all really nice people, and they were the first proof that the nasty things some Brits say about them, is a load of rubbish! I'm hoping to go to America as soon as possible! : )

All the American people that I have met have been really nice and very pleasant. Just like in every country there are some people that are nice and others that aren't but no-one and no country is perfect. But as I said all the American people I know and have met are really nice

I think that as in every people in the world there must be good and bad Americans...But also one has to admit ythat due to their ralatively short story as a nation they don't have the intellectual baggase/ background of some Euroopeans (English , Germans or French)
