Might not be waiting too long.... Apple does tend to release new stuff right after christmas, however, interesting article...
http://www.macrumors.com/2007/11/01/boxes-of-macbooks-arrive-at-apple-stores/
Anyways, I would buy now, the current mabook pro has been tried and tested and works like a charm. If you pounce in January, are you asking for a lemon? I pounced on the new Imac, now it locks up constantly which they just revealed to be a hardware overheating problem, which makes sense since it happens to me when I am doing video encoding. Yet, no fix, so I am in trouble.
So, with a new Mac book pro model, I would still wait several months until getting one. Never buy the first off the line, and you don't when they are releasing.
So, spare yourself these extra questions:
"If I buy a new model will I get a screen with color issues?"
"... or a hard drive with issues?"
"... or one that overheats?"
"... or one that has an exploding battery?"
"... will Apple replace it?"
"... if they do, how many months until the problem is found?"
"... how much data do I lose then, or money?"

Bear with me on this answer. It sounds like a rant, at first, but it's not.
It's NEVER the "right" time to buy a computer these days. Computer technology changes so fast that within six months of buying a new computer, it's already technologically obsolete (or nearly so.)
That being said, computers today are so powerful and versatile that, unless you're the kind of person who feels compelled to always have the newest, fastest, most powerful computer on the block, any computer you buy today should provide you with a minimum of three-four years of good, useful service.
This is what I would do: I would wait until January, when the new Macbooks come out, and I would hit up the online Mac retailers (MacZone, MacMall, MacWarehouse, etc.) and look for clearances on the last generation Macbook. You'd be able to get a really great, powerful Macbook for a substantial savings over what you'd pay today, and you won't feel gypped.
Another good option would be to hit up the Apple Store online and look for a good price on a refurbished Macbook. You can get them for a good $200-$300 less than a new one, they're as good as new, and they come with the full one-year AppleCare warranty.
Personally, I have never purchased a "new" Mac laptop. I always bought refurbs, and I never had a problem. I also always bought the last model in a generation when the new model was released. I have saved a lot of money this way over the years, and although I am always a step behind in the technology, it's never been a problem. Each laptop I've purchased was such an improvement over the last one that I've been happy every time.
Good luck!

January. Now just isn't the right time. You heard what happpend with the iPhone. People bought it for $400 and a couple of weeks later it was down to $200. Waitng is always best that way you get it at a cheaper price.
If a new model is coming out soon, then the current one will be "out of date"

Wait until January, then take the plunge.
Before then, you'll probably hear another rumor that will make you want to wait some more.
TIP: If you keep waiting, you''ll never buy, and the tech world WILL pass you by. This is NOT a good thing.

except your a gamer and decide on the bragging rights of a CPU it relatively is 10% swifter than the "different adult adult males" CPU, the recent MacBook improve is not any vast deal to Mac customers. Any time is a robust time to purchase a MacBook in case you basically elect it for prevalent computing and video modifying. the recent song pad is maximum in all probability to be a sprint (like the iTouch) song pad.

Buy one in Jan. At the least, your current models will be cheaper (especially if a new model is on the way).
