It soaks into the ground where it's absorbed by grass. Then cows eat the grass and it becomes milk. If it's really cold when the cows eat the grass, it becomes vanilla ice cream! Isn't that cool?

When it becomes a liquid when it melts it becomes clear. I think the whiteness come from the density of the compact firm snow but I am not sure how.

This is really a physics question. Color is produced by the reflection of light. When snow melts, it changes the way it reflects light, and therefore, the color changes. In a sense, at dusk, things really ARE less colorful as well.

Snow isn't white, its asian! no seriously, it's frozen water, the colour comes from the reflection of the suns rays on the snow. The reflection of the sun on the snow sun doesn't reflect off liquid water so the'whiteness' doesn't exist in the first place.

Its really quite simple, actually. Water in its solid state has different qualities and characteristics than it does in its liquid state. Therefore, the properties in ice reflect every other color in the spectrum, and as it melts, the properties of ice disappear and the properties in water take over, making it clear again.

Please tell me you are not that dumb. Snow only appears to be white. As water freezes crystals form and appear to have a "frosty" or "white" color. SO naturally when it melts and turns back into water it will be clear again.
