The unholy coalition of American conservatism and Islamofascism against enlightenment. They are opposites in this conflict but not enemies. Their dynamic of fear and terror is meant to marginalize and break the spirit of critical and free thinkers on all sides.
They both have a cultist spirit where everyone who doubts their interpretation is a traitor and part of the evil outside world(infidels for Muslims but liberal bias for cons) They both put ideology before science and reason think junk science like creatioinism or intelligent design. They both are extremely religous and hostile towards gay people

Of course there are differences in methods and sevirity of hostility but can you deny the similarities? Let's hope humanity will be clever enough not to let ourselves be fooled to take a side but reject them both and choose rationality.

They need each other for survival and their true enemies, free independent critical citizens are the same

A secular society.

When the left succeeds in removing all vestiges of religion from the face of society, democracy is doomed.
Without a moral compass for guidance, there is no limit to the extremes a political party or individual can go to perpetrate his or her agenda. History has shown us this time and time again.
What was the first thing the Communist's did when taking over, eliminate religion, What did the Nazi's do? Eliminate religion. When you remove that compass, be it Christianity, Islam, Hindu, or what ever, you allow the nefarious element of society the opportunity to make their own rules.
Once in power, the rules they make usually spell the end of democracy.

Quick unthought out fixes. Too bad many go for the sound bite solutions. Next biggest threat is a public that refuses to educate themselves.

the biggest threat to our democracy is apathy of the public the will not to get involved and waste away your vote to let others decide your future and the country's future without input from you the people

Our failure to educate our children.
The erosion of the middle class and the loss of manufacturing jobs in this country.
The lack of secure borders and the welfare system.
The tax structure that penalizes the most productive among us.

All of this creates an apathy which is destroying our will, and therefore destroying our democracy.

The American people. Voter turnout is shamefully low. Many people who are eligible to vote don't even register. The populace is amazingly misinformed on even the most fundamental issues facing the US. People seem much more interested in Britney Spears, their favorite sports team, or which of their coworkers is gay -- or whatever else the inept, commercial American media tells people to be concerned about.
