Ok, im trying to put my computer together but for some reason my computer wont turn on. Now i think it may be the harddrive. There are 3 things that can be pluged into it, one for the motherboard which i have put in, two for what seems to be the power supply, and three some other slot of a cable. It looks like 2 rows with 4 little pins sticking out( like this :::: ). Not sure if i need to use it or not and when i ordered my computer, no book came with the harddrive.......... well if anyone can help me out to what it is and whats it for.

ok . if the power of the computer does not turn on, it is not the hard drive.,....but the only thing that goes into the sata hard drive is the thin red sata cable and the think black power cable,

if the power does not turn on, make sure the motherboard is not screwed directly into the case, you need standoffs to raise it, also make sure the power button is connected correctly and also that the power supply is not faulty

maximum drives the two incorporate a setup cd or on the mfg internet site furnish a setup acquire. because of the fact this may be a 'storage' stress the xp cd should not be required in any respect. OBTW Xp previous to sp 2 did no longer help sata. So a floppy disk stress and sata driving force have been required to setup xp on that stress. stable success

The pins that you mention are to change the hard drive between SATA 1 and SATA 2 functionality. You'll need to check with your motherboard manual to see whether your board can handle SATA 1 or SATA 2 drives. (Obviously, SATA 2 capability has a faster transfer rate than SATA 1.)

To get your computer to boot, you'll need to enable Boot from SATA in your BIOS. If that option isn't available, you'll need to go to the manufacturer of your hard drive or your motherboard and download a driver from them.

Your board should have come with SATA raid drivers on a floppy. insert the floppy place your xp disc into your cd-rom drive make sure you set it to boot from cd. When it ask's if you want to install other devices hit the F6 key you should get another box with sata raid drivers for you operating system hit enter it will then take the drivers from the floppy that's it windows will now install.
