From time immemorial India has been ruled by maharajahs.Indians have become used to being subjects. The tradition continued when the British stepped in through the East India Company route. We were at that time ruled by the Emperor. After gaining independence the Nehru and Gandhi family took over.Of course we used to have pocket rajahs ruling small towns and villages and hamlets. The role of these petty rulers has been taken over by founders of DMK,NCP,RJD,SP,etc. The general
populace has remained servile as had been their lot all these decades. Not only servility is ingrained but is now freely flowing in our
bloodstream. Now you know why the Indian voters continue to vote for dynasties. We appear to have decided to meekly accept our fate to be ruled by dynasties. The strangest part of all this is that we call ourselves a
democracy.Crazy,isn't it?

i will not comment for any other party beside Congress. What happened when there was a BJP rule in India? I am sure u know the answer. What happened when Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao was a Prime Minister, the historical monuments were demolished and a communal tension arose all over the India. Now when Mrs. Sonia Gandhi indirectly ruling the country u can see the economy of the country. It is in a full bloom. To rule the country u have to have a very broad thinking which only Nehru parivar has, it has been proved. u have seen what happened when congress and its allais came to power Sonia Gandhi was the first candidate for a prime minister but she denied. Is it not a big thought? All the other party leaders whether even in Congress,BJP etc they are all keen to take the portfolio. This is what Nehru Parivar is.

That is not true. Let us talk one by one.

Congress: People do not vote for a family but in past they were voting for the party. After Nehru, Shastri was the PM. After Rajiv PV Narsimharao was the PM. However, Party is headed by the people who are the best at the time. Whether that is Kamraj, Patel, Shastri, Rao, Indira, Rajiv or Sonia. They are able to keep the party together that prooves that they are the best administrator. And if someone can keep the biggest party of India together they are really capable of running the country as well.

DMK: So far it has been ruled by Karunanidhi only.

Lalu: He is the only one ruling the pary not next generation.

PMK: Same as above.

Indians are traditionally accustomed to think on the lines of their own families only. They want a son at all costs to carry on the family lineage and to pass on family property to successive generations. So the average Indian easily relates to anything which has a family tag to it. No wonder big business and Industrial houses adopt the same thinking. Thus we have big family businesses like the Tatas, Birlas, Ambanis, Goenkas etc. Politicians too can not fall far behind and Indians can be trusted to support generations of ploiticians.
Also, the concept of a parliamentary democracy has not been fully grasped by Indians at large. They still think along feudal lines where a king is succeeded to the throne by his son. Thus Indians want to perpetuate a political dynasty with the same zeal that the politicians want it.

Most people are illiterate, though they know the value of their votes. But they are helpless. Hence they trade their votes for whatever is offered by politicians / political parties.

Families are popular for good or bad reasons. The known is preferred over the unknown. When promised life style has not improved, the anti - incumbency factor weighs very much.

One suggestion here to the Questioner. It would have been better if the question is posted in India section. It could get more people to respond and the purpose is better served.

Too true & sad indeed.
But perhaps U've forgotten / omitted to mention the notorious Nehru-Gandhi dynasty. The're THE WORST among usurpers.Even their name 'Gandhi' is bogus. Indira's husband was Feroze 'Daruwalla' before wedding , & on Nehruji's insistance, he changed his surname to 'Gandhi.'
During Rahul's recent visits to USA & China, there was surreptious canvassing by Congressies & Embassy Staff that 'Rahul was Mahatma Too sad indeed.Gandhi's grandson '! Can U beat it ?

Nehruji was a great Leader & so was Indiraji. Their subsequent descendants were undeserving, but successfully encashed on Nehruji's accumulated merit ='Punya'.They have by now sucked it dry & in the next elections, prudent Indian voters will throw out these & many other dynasties, Insha Allah.
