Yes i think so....currently kallis is the best test batsman
against pak
1st innings--155 & 100*
2nd innings--57 & 105*
and about amla........hes not a very good batsman.......
and amla dropped on 2 and kallis dropped on 108.....
Bond and Oram both injured
only 3 regular bowlers NZ have now
Spinner not doing much in this pitch....so nothing from vettori
Debut match for Iain O brien & Ross Taylor
& NZ is losing 1st test match....
but dont care much.....NZ is not good in test....i dont even remember when last time they won test series......
but i am still happy....atleast they played better than pakistan
in 1st innings

Jayawardene and Chanderpaul average more this year but based on his last three Tests Kallis is the best.
994 runs @ 90.36 with 4 centuries this year is a great record.
636 runs @ 159.00 with 4 centuries in his last three Tests is an incredible record considering it wasn't against weak teams like Bangladesh or West Indies.

While being an excellent batsman, I don't think he is the best. He batting is always a bit on the slow side and he lacks the ability to score runs quickly when the situation requires it. He is often critiscised in SA for batting for himself rather than the team. I personally think Ponting, Hayden and maybe pietersen are all ahead of him.

I think he would be in the top 5, Ponting would have to be up there he seems to get better the older he gets, Mike Hussey would also be in with a chance he has a career average of 80 odd and just scored 133 against Sri Lanka.

Ponting is the best.
Kallis is a great batsman, but he is an accumulatoe of runs. He does not dominate attacks in the way that Ponting does. To be a great batsman, you need to be sound defensively, be able to score quickly, have the ability to play on all types of surfaces, against all types of bowling.
Ponting meets all these criteria.

While Kallis can be considered as the best allrounder in the world today, he cannot be considered as the best batsman.
