My daughter has been constipated pretty much the entire time since she was born. The formula I have her on has added rice cereal because she spits up on regualr Enfamil. But anyways, the doctor had told me to give her a tinnie bit of Milk of Magnesia in her milk or Water/Juice. And that would help her go and clean her out. Because it's very toxic for them to be so constipated. My daughter would SCREAM and bleed when she would poop. But I hated giving her the milk of mag. So I gave it to hero ne last time to clean her out. And then EVERYDAY i gave my daughter a jar of Prunes. Any kinds of prunes. and she just started a NORMAL pooping pattern. She has been fine ever since. I dont even have to give her Prunes EVERYDAY now. I just do it a few times a week.

Hope this helps!!

Pears also help with constipation. I'm sure there are others but thats what I use.

When you first start solids, it should not be very much. Start with a few teaspoons one a day and work your way up. We started my daughter on solids at 4 1/2 months (didn't make any difference in her sleep, despite what the docs said, and I wish we'd waited the full 6 months). I still only give her a few tablespoons once a day, some days not at all. Take it slow, and follow her cues - if she still seems hungry, offer a little bit more. If she gets fussy or starts turning her head away, she's probably done. The best advice I've heard about solids is that it's your job to offer them - it's baby's job to decide how much!

Traditionally the foods to help alleviate constipation are the " P" foods: peas, pears, peachest, prunes. However, if you have not started your baby on anything other than prunes, it might be a good time to find out what your doctor recommends. There are lots of things you can try, but each doctor has their own protocol for constipation ( increased water intake, fruit juice, Karo syrup). i would go that route, especially if she is chonically constipated.

Good luck!

The 3 p's plums, peaches, pears have the most fiber. I have been battling constipation in mine since she I weened her and a little at 6 months.
If she is acting like she is constipated but she stool is not rock hard then she is not truly constipated just pushing hard. They need to build up the muscles in their bodies to help push out stool. For t he past 6 months she has not has to try to push that hard to get it out. Now they have to develop the muscles to push more formed stool out.
You also want to make sure that she gets some water through day 5 oz or so and if you choose you can put some juice in it like apple (I didn't and still not give juice). We all need water to keep stools soft enough to pass through our bodies. go to Dr. sears website and type in constipation it will give a lot of info.

At 6 months of age they are only eating for taste. So if you are using jar food take out 1/2 with a clean spoon and put in a small bowl and save the rest for later. She may eat it and she may not. You may need to try the food 10-12 times before she will eat it. Don't worry about how much she east just what you are feeding her. As long as she is growing and gaining weight then she is fine.

When I was pregnant my doc told me to eat things rich in antioxidants like apples & corn. Those are the only 2 I can remember but it worked.
