Brief comments:
AL 2B -- purely by stats, Carlos Guillen was the best choice, but Jeter is still good, and carries much more rep.

AL 1B -- brilliant choice. Overlooked in Tampa.

NL SS -- different electorate, but I predict Rollins for NL MVP. (Don't care if I'm wrong.)

NL P -- only real choice, so well done.

Next week, the big awards.

Obviously my "AL 2B" comment was intended to be about the shortstops. D'oh!

I agree with you about the AL SS. Guillen got robbed. They must have felt bad that Jeter didn't get his obligitory undeserved Gold Glove and figured why let stats and record stand in the way of another bogus award for this tool.
When will this joker stop getting a free pass? It really makes these awards look cheaper when someone who really doesn't deserve them wins.

Every other award was spot on.

For the AL, Pena and Posada definately deserved it. Pena went so overlooked because he plays in Tampa Bay, and Posada just goes overlooked, I think. I also think that it was obvious Rodriguez was going to win it for 3rd base. I think the OF is all good, and I certainly will not complain about their DH selection. However, I think Jeter only won it because he's Derek Jeter. As for 2nd base, I think Brian Robers or Robinson Cano put up better numbers than Polanco.

In the NL, I think the infield is good. I think they picked all the right people, but I think Eric Byrnes should've gotten it over Beltran. Byrnes had more hits, more at-bats (wasn't Beltran injured this year?), runs, triples, and stolen bases. Beltran had more homeruns, RBIs, and walks, but I still think Byrnes would be a better choice.

For me, slugger suggests power and of course they seem to have favoured batting average over some power in a lot of categories

Posada over Victor Martinez
as you mentioned Jeter over Guillen
Cano probably should have got it over Polanco, but I am ok with it.
Suzuki is an interesting choice. In the 'powerful' AL, no AL OF ranked in the top 10 out of ML outfielders and it looks like, with only a glance, that the top hr hitting AL OFer was only at 28 dingers.

So, I would have had different picks at C and SS, but the others are acceptable.

No problems with NL guys, very balanced, I can see their decision in each one.
Shame that Brandon Phillips couldn't have been recognized for his amazing 30/30 season, but you can't have a team, just a starting lineup.

Love Martin with a SS, he had an amazing season.

i admire all of them... aside from Derek Jeter, i think of that Michael youthful had a greater acceptable hitting season then him. i'm additionally uncertain approximately Matt Holliday, he's great, yet i don't be attentive to if he's a silver slugger this twelve months.

The 2 Tigers who win were the first pair of Tigers to win it since Travis Fryman & Mickey Tettleton in 1992.

Great choices.

They look pretty good to me. Obviously I'm biased when I say this but I think Victor Martinez should have won catcher.
