Just thought this - When Goose goes in the hall next year, it will be as a Yankee, and they will have to retire his # as well.

Derek Jeter #2 - Team captain. Heart of the Yankees run along with Paul O Neill 1996 - 2001.

Jorge Posada #20 - Was the unoffical cocaptain since 1996. HE IS YANKEE.

Bernie Williams #51 - If you want to have a dynasty you need a guy like Bernie on you're club. The commetiment Bernie showed the Yankees was great.

Roger Clemens - His number will probably be retired by 3 of his 4 teams. The Yankees should retire to him, the ROCKET was one of the key players that helped the Yankees win a WS.

Andy Pettite - He's just like Roger. He was one of the main guys in the Yankees won. Thats, and his great stats and commietment to the Yanks.

Mariano Reveria - How can you NOT retire is number? He is probably the best closer of all time and on top of that he played his whole career with youre team raising 4 world series championships and 6 AL Titles all together!

Paul 'O Neill - He was the unoffical cocaptain from 1996 - 2001. His stats might not be, 'DE-REK JE-TER' but he should be retired.

Joe Torre - Possibly the best Yankee manager of all time. 12 straight playoff apperances, 4 WS Titles, 6 AL Championships.

Only 2:
#2 for Derek Jeter
#42 for Mariano Rivera (and a separate one for the MLB-wide retirement of #42 for Jackie Robinson).
Maybe #51 for Bernie Williams or #20 for Jorge Posada if he finishes his career with the Yankees.
Sorry, not Tino. He was a great Yankee but he didn't have the longevity with the team that a player needs to retire his number.

Jeter, Torre, Rivera, and Posada for sure. Bernie has a 50/50 chance at it, but I can see it happening. Paulie's got a decent shot at it too. With the send off the Yankee fans gave him that was so emotional it would be hard to believe if he isn't honored in some way. But if your the Yankees you gotta start getting more strict on the #'s soon or else you'll run out!!

Pettitte and Clemens I say no. Unless Clemens goes into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee... THEN retire his #.

#a million Martin, #3 Ruth, #4 Gehrig, #5 DiMaggio, #7 Mantle, #8 Berra and Dickey, #9 Maris, #10 Rizzuto, #15 Munson, #sixteen Ford, #23 Mattingly, #32 Howard, #37 Stengel, #40 4 Jackson. study those names and think of roughly it! apart from Munson and Jackson and in step with probability Mattingly. those names are sacred, (i do no longer think of Jacksons # could have been retired), Munson became a fan famous as became Mattingly so as that they seem to be a toss up. think of roughly what the others did for the game. i could say Jeter has the final shot accompanied by using Torre. Bernie became an extremely good hitter and a seize participant, he became mediocre at ultimate interior the outfield. Rivera, properly #40 two is being retired by using baseball yet i think of the Yakees additionally will retire it with Moe's call. Oneil, no way. Posada, no way, Tino, no way. Cano, you desire a crystal ball, and A-Rod , such as you suggested. relies upon on his destiny with the gang.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about him, but Joe Torre is a future Hall of Famer and did manage them to four championships. He should be next. Jeter will have his retired one day as well. Paul O'Neill and Tino were good, not great players. Retiring their numbers would cheapen the process. If you retired them, you would have to go back thru Yankee history and retire a couple of hundred more numbers.

Well, the obvious ones would be Derek Jeter, Joe Torre, Jorge Posada, Roger Clemens, and Bernie Williams. Arguably, Mariano Rivera deserves to have his number retired as well, but it cannot happen since the number 42 was retired across baseball for Robinson. The Yankees will find another way to honor Rivera. It will be interesting to see what they do, even though I hate the Yankees.

#2 - Jeter
# 6 - Torre, although I could see the Yankees being petty and not retiring it.

Retiring Clemens' Yankee number is a bad joke.

Rivera's number will be retired because of the Jackie Robinson thing, but had he worn another number his would be worthy of retirement.

O'Neill, Williams, Posada, Pettitte and all the rest - All very good players, but let's get real about retiring their numbers. If every team retired the numbers of players they had of this caliber before you know it teams would have to start using numbers in the hundreds.
