hey, i'm 18years old and it's been about two weeks before i had my period and i've started bleeding slightly. My periods, after years of irregularity (it would often not appear for months),have this year become regular except for now. Apparently bleeding in between periods can be normal so should i not be worried? I'm not on the pill or birth control. Apparently stress can cause it and i'm in the middle of my final year of school exams but i don't actually feel stressed... I lost my virginity about about a month ago now and have had sex a few times since then using protection, that woudln't have anything to do with it would it? Sex doesn't hurt me anymore and i know when you lose your virginity you can bleed a bit but i think i should be over that stage by now...

Sounds like your period could still be irregular. Bleeding in between periods is definately NOT NORMAL. If that happens, or if you spot or bleed after intercourse, you need to go to a doctor about it ASAP. But wait and see if its your period just being irregular before you assume it's bleeding inbetween periods. If your period arrives again when its meant to and you find that you did in fact bleed inbetween periods, then you really must see a doctor.

Also, you may spot or bleed a little when you lose your virginity (this doesn't happen to everyone though) due to your hymen breaking, this is normal. But any bleeding after that is not normal.

This is normal. Bleeding between periods is a fact of life for some women, it's just the way their body works.

Contraception - pill; injections; or marina can control this if it is a route that you want to go down.

Talk to your GP about your options.

From having talked to friends yes, bleeding can occur the first time a woman has sex.

I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.

You really should consult your doctor, these questions cannot be answered correctly without an examination
