Why when i want to fly the union jack i am treated and if i have comitted treason.. i want to fly it as im proud to be part of a nation that is UNITED.. and for our boys n girls that are fighting a political war.. in every other country in the world they are proud and allowed to show their patriotism especially the UNITED states of America who have the greatest concerntration of multiculturalism in the world.. where 99% of the population get on regardless of faith and colour!
Why not fly the flag of the country u have chosen or been born to live in.. because ur happy just to live in it.. and be pround of who u are in your home and enjoy the way u live.. and fly your own flag! wherever u come from.. its our heritage that shapes us not defines us.

Actually I was just listening to BBC radio earlier today and heard a little about this.
I don't know the whole story why it came up, and upon first listening I was like you and didn't understand why it was an issue. But from what I gathered, the person I heard who was speaking his opinion just thought it was weird, it had never been done before, and that that's not what people in the United Kingdom do. So if you want to and this makes sense to you, unfortunately since it is not apparently common, normal or regular practice, you are going to encounter a lot of opposition.
It seems a silly argument to me, but then again I don't live there. I am vastly interested in other cultures and countries though, and what's going on there. In America we have to basically go out of our way to learn about other countries, because America is so consumed with itself.
Anyway, if this is strongly important to you, why not fight for it? It's how everything's ever been done. And you have good points as well, so I don't see a problem. In the radio show it did sound like a lot of people also agreed with you. It is just a change that will have to slowly popularize if it is to happen.

The simple fact is that most British people are ashamed to be British. We simply don't celebrate things, it is just the way we are. Also waving the British flag at anything other than the Last night of the Proms has some bad images with it. It wasn't so long ago that England was nearly withdrawn from European competitions because so called "football fans". Ran riot in Europe carrying their flags with them.

Because patriotism is dangerous, and we have quite a sensible attitude toward it nowadays.
I don't identify with people just because they are born in the same country as me, I fly the flag for my socio-political beliefs, not the artificial boundaries placed around a piece of rock sticking out of the ocean.
I'm not ashamed to be British, but it's only the place where I live. I identify myself as a citizen of earth, a child of the internet, and the product of western philosophy.
I'm proud to be "the person who I am", not "a person where I live"

Personally, I'd like to see the Union Flag flown outside all public buildings, outside all schools and inside all school halls. Also outside ALL places of worship. ie churches of all denomination, all mosques, temples, synagogues, kingdom halls, or any other. I

It's actually the 'union flag' not 'jack'. A common error. And if you wanna fly it, you go ahead, noone has any right to object!

There is nothing to stop you flying the union flag.
But please ensure you at least learn to fly the banner the right way up.

because the BNP hijacked the flag and have made it become a more sinister symbol of Britain.

This is complete nonsense. You can fly any flag you like. Who has prevented you from flying your flag? Nobody has, have they? You're an idiot.
