On "Have I Got News for you" on bbc1, i've heard comments insulting the Government, muslims, USA, the Pri-minister, the President and even racist remarks and they haven't been done once for it but yet if something like that happens on Channel 4, Big Brother for example the press is there right away and it's not long before the police and that are involved and the odd thing is the BBC is actually a government owned set of channels and seems to be the only channels getting away with this.
Could this be because of the government owning the BBC?

I do business studies and the BBC is a Public Sector Business and the Public sector is all companies ran by the government.

Hang on, the government doesn't own BBC... although I don't for a moment believe Terry Wogan's assurance that it is 'Your' (our!) BBC. It is a 'public corporation': neither a private corporation nor a government department, held in trust for the public of the UK by the BBC Trust.

Consequently they should be neutral and bound by the same rules as other broadcasters.

How do they get away with comments? Because HIGNFY is FUNNY, and entertaining, insults everybody and moves on quickly. Programmes such as Big Brother, celebrities cooking, etc is just dross, cheap TV and it repeats and sensationalises everything.

Leave it alone - it is the last vestige of British humour that hasn't been destroyed by political correctness. And how does your logic add up - if its a government owned channel why would they mock the government?
If no one can take the mickey out of the government, prime minister and the USA then we are really in a bad state. This is what happens in dictatorships where they have to worship their leaders or else.
And "racist" jokes ease tensions they don't create them. I don't reckon anyone came out of a Bernard Manning show in a rage at Pakistanis, wanting to torch the mosques or beat them up.

It's all in the context. It's a humorous show, whereas the Big Brother was a "in real life" -type show.

Also, lawyers carefully look through HIGNFY to edit anything too near the knuckle, libellous etc.

It's also about sailing close, but not too close.

thank god for!! have i got news for you. thats how Britain used!! to be 10 years ago. free to poke fun at its self and every one els. but its actualy the outher way around. the government allows the BBC to demand money with meneces. (IE a fine ) from people weather they watch the BBC programs or not. so i think they're in each others! pockets realy.....propaganda for the government. legalised robbery for the BBC.

Maybe? Who knows...we won't ever know because 'they' won't let us. Everything is choreographed even down to the news.

The best way for me is to not have a TV, use meditation as a guide to life and simplify everything. If a major thing happens in the world, i find out very quickly due to everyone talking about it.

Beautiful friends whom i trust their words fill me in to the happenings in a positive way, this cuts out any of the media in my life. Whooah!

I'm then left to pray and do kind and gentle work.
Kindest Regards

It's called satire, and it is a whole world away from racist abuse.

Are you suggesting that when HIGNFY is repeated on commercial stations they remove all the stuff you consider to be insulting?

I think you'll find that they insult everyone equally on HIGNFY. You can't get fairer than that.
