The fact is that nasa is now planning a trip back to the moon to build a base to prepare a trip to mars,, if I remember right man will be back on the moon as early as 2012, This aslo will be a base for a new and even more powerful telescope than the hubble space telescope and in time it will be a reality,, try going to nasa.gov and search around in their sites and there is so much to learn, another good space news source is JPL, and even more is space.com as well as universetoday.com, If you wish to you can go to my homepage right here on answers and view my yahoo 360 blogs and there is so much info in there that you can find all this stuff, that is what I do is blogs about space and our amazing universe..

Once again, the colossally ignorant presule to dismiss a great achievement. Perhaps you'd care to explain what you mean by 'nobody ever spoke about going to the moon again'? The people who did it back then speak about it all the time. Plans for a return to the moon have been on the drawing board ever since Apollo. Going to the Moon is talked about all the time in certain circles. Do some research.

Let's follow your reasoning for a minute. I travelled to California a few years ago. Since I haven't returned to California since then, does that mean that I never went in the first place? Of course not. The same is true of the lunar landings; that we haven't been back in over 30 years means nothing. It's not as though NASA has tried and failed to go back to the Moon. Massive budget cuts have forced NASA to reevaluate its priorities, and manned missions to the Moon simply aren't cost-effective.
Just as I don't have the money to buy a Ferrari, NASA doesn't have the funding to go to the Moon. Like me, NASA has to spend its money wisely and not burn it all in one place.

Back then it was for prestige. Now it would be for no purpose at all. Except prestige, since the Chinese announced to do it (not by standing on each other's shoulder, but with a real craft!) and the Indians too. So if the US beats them again, it is a gain of prestige.

There is no real reason to explore the moon any further. They now have the moon rover, which constantly records and takes photos of the moons surface. The moons atmosphere and surface is nothing we can live on or produce life of any kind. The moon is simply, the moon.

Been there, Done that. Not much to see I guess. By the way, you can go into NASA Website and ask them,or even a Astronaut.

The cost is prohibitive for one thing. Also, there were other priorities here on earth that needed tending to.
