I dont understand this game you call football. Here in australia we play aussie rules. No padding on our men. We don't have wardrobe malfunctions either but we do have the odd streaker.

Not gonna take anything away from your Aussie football... or rugby games. They play hard and hit hard. True. Pads and equipment are a vital part of American Football.. for safety reasons. Watched a program the other night of electronically computed hardest hits in different sports. The crossing wide receiver reaching up for a pass being hit in the mid section by an oncoming Linebacker was the hardest hit of all sports. Was calculated as a car coming in at 30 mph and hitting you. that's how much force was generated in the impact. The pads the man wears distributed the force out more evenly to help prevent the sternum crushing into the heart cavity. The only protectoin to save his life. So,, yes,, they have to wear pads. Oh another note.. of all the tests they ever run on football helments... they have never duplicated the force impacted on the football field.

We dont understand Cricket either. Aussie rules football is an interesting game, and believe it of not there is a fairly huge following in the States. About the padding, the reason you are making fun of it is you may not have actually watched a football game. I can go into details, such as forward passes, being able to tackle below the knees(unlike Aussie rules football) but just know that in the early 1900s they used to not wear pads, as the game evolved into what it is today, the padding became more becuase people were getting paralyzed. Even now with with the pads, players are getting sent to the hospital on a regular basis. Aussie rules football players are tough, and great kickers, but its a complete different game than American Football, different type of hitting, its like comparing golf to hockey really. american football has pads because you get hit a lot harder that can give you an extreme concussion. Two end zones ( it's were you score ) And at each end zone there are two goalposts the they kick the football through to also score pionts. There are certain positions also. Actually Scottie is right. When people dont make the football team in high school, most do tend to join the Rugby club or group. They cant afford padding either.
