It's the advertising that makes the money. The local ads and the self-perpetuating upcoming movie releases pay the movie theater's bills.

Well, that and the $11 popcorn.

They are supposed to whet your appetite for upcoming films and start people talking about them. They're a theater tradition I suppose.

Once upon a time, we saw cartoons, LONG trailers, and sometimes a bit of news. Now, it's down to snippets of trailers then on to the movie, not nearly as satisfying. Of course, back then, you weren't chased out of the theater. If they were having end-to-end showings, you were allowed to sit through it as many times as you wanted. Yes, that was very nice and extremely economical. Of course, we didn't have the quantity of films being made now. Yet, people complain about movies! *SIGH* People take too much for granted.

Anyway, the trailers are wonderful, and local advertising isn't so bad. It doesn't take up much time, and it gives people time to get settled into their seats.

I truly miss being able to go to the theater.

you know i have to agree with Jan, sometimes they are the best part of the movies, if you see a sequel to a movie or a movie that looks really good, plus if the movie you just watch sucked ***, you have something to look forward to
