Economic importance of protozoans appears to be quite ver large. Some of the economic importance of Protozoa include the following:
>>Protozoans are important components of aquatic and soil ecosystems.
>>Protozoans control microbial populations and also a major route to transfer of biomass within the food chain in aquaculture.
>> Protozoans (Flagellates) are the primary component in the marine food chain.
>>Have some role in soil fertility which has great impact to agriculture.
>>Protozoans (skeletons of Foramininfera) make up much of the limestone and chalk on the Earth.
>> Many protozoans can cause disease in humans.Common examples include malaria, amoebic dysentery, sleeping sickness, etc. It has great impact on the economy due to the medical costs incurred and due to days of labour lost due to sickness. Costs of treatment and for CONTROL, and lost workdays affects economic factors greatly.

Tuberculosis in cows is a serious economic problem in the UK. It is generally believed that badgers are a source of infection, but it is not clear how the bacterium (Mycobacterium bovis) is transmitted from badgers to cows. It is possible that cattle eat grass contaminated with badger urine, but mycobacteria will not survive long on grass as they tend to die when exposed to drying conditions and sunlight. Recently showed that M. bovis can survive within a protozoan known as Acanthamoeba castellanii. In the environment, protozoa generally live by digesting bacteria. If bacteria can survive this attack, and continue to live inside the protozoa, they are protected from adverse conditions outside. Reseach is going on that how to use proyozoa for preventing tuberculosis in cattle in the future.
