Richard Dawkins has a bright idea: Atheists are the new gays. Is he joking? Not at all. The bestselling author of The God Delusion has been suggesting for two years now that atheists can follow the example of gays. Can an atheist "rights" group be far behind? Hate crimes laws to protect atheists? Affirmative action for unbelievers?

Stingirl: George W. Bush as President of the United States is upholding his sworn allegiance to Article 22 of the constitution of Delaware (1776)
Required all officers, besides taking an oath of allegiance, to make and subscribe to the following declaration:
• "I, George W. Bush, do profess faith in God the Father, and in Jesus Christ His only Son, and in the Holy Ghost, one God, blessed for evermore; and I do acknowledge the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be given by divine inspiration." You should not hate this man for following the oaths of his office set forth by our founding fathers of this great country just because your own personal beliefs excludes God.

he meant that atheists today are looked at as gays were like 50 years ago. now gay people have rights and are not a big deal anymore. atheism is growing and soon people will know the truth about us and accept us more.

Very strangely worded question!!!!!
Black folks fought for their rights-- are still fighting.
Gay people are fighting for their rights.
Atheists now must fight for their rights.
It's not a matter of special rights for any of these groups. It's a matter of equal rights-- to be heard. to be valued, to have the same benefits as anyone else.
The majority of America fears atheists for no good reason. They fear atheists they were brainwashed from childhood to believe the fairy tales without question-- while atheists use reason to live their lives. As an out gay woman and an out atheist, I must stand up for my rights everyday and demand to be heard. The religionists have tried to overpower us since the beginning. Personally I am damn tired of it. I am a moral person- without the need for punishments and rewards from some invisible super being. I have to answer to myself every night. Was I good person today? Did I do right? Can I do better tomorrow? I have not believed in a god since I was 8 years old - a decision totally on my part, not my family. I knew the stories made no sense and could not understand why adults never questioned it. I still feel the same way. But there is a lot of distrust and harassment out there and we need to clear up this situation. Look out for us.

I too am straight and a christian and totally agree with you that Jesus NEVER taught us to hate ANYONE. We were all created equal and remain that way, no matter what we do. God loves us all the same, HOWEVER the Lord as well as the Christian hates the sin of the homosexual or of anything that is against God. God abhors this sin as stated in the book of Romans. We should never judge a person's motives or their character, but it's ok to judge if their doctrine is heretical or their life is filled with wickedness. To stand back and not take a stand for Christ is wrong also. We christians are to be the light in a dark world. To say I love you as a brother or sister in Christ and fear risking their acceptance of you, so you don't want to offend them by telling them the trtuth is not loving them at all. It's loving yourself, caring what they think of you, not whether they die in their sins. To judge that person's character is wrong, but so is not stepping up to the plate and going to bat for them!!! A christian should also do a self check and hate their own sin and when they do sin, repent and change. Forgiveness from God is awesome!!

They hate us so much! Daddy Bush said we shouldn't even be considered citizens, or patriots. Yeah, that's why I don't like him. I may be an atheist, but I am still a citizen, and very patriotic.

They did a survey at the University of Minnisota we (atheists) fall below Muslims, Gays and every other minority group.

Not "The New Gays".

You make being gay sound like a fad. It isn't. Not one little bit!

But atheism is spreading, gaining publicity, and we will probably have atheist rights groups...there are some already!

No. Gays are the new gays, and the old ones, and the future ones.

That's just closed minded and ignorant. Everyone has the right to believe what they want to believe. Who are you to judge what they think.
