First, find out what he likes. There's the foil shaver and the rotary shaver(the 3 headed one). I've tried both and I prefer the rotary shaver. I occasionally shave my dome with my electric shaver and the foil one is worthless for that. I like Norelco. They last for a long time, are reasonably priced, and you can always get replacement parts for them. I tried a Braun and hated it. And don't bother with the self cleaning ones. Find one you can simply rinse under the faucet after each use. Makes cleaning them easy. And get one that's rechargeable. Most are now. You should be able to get a decent one for $50-70.

You can get him an electric shaver for $20 at the low end, but that will be very hard to use if he aims at a moustache. In that case, I would rather suggest a blade shaver which you might get for $5 at the low end.

Get those cheap orange disposable Bic shavers to start. It's only one blade, but it's very controllable. Think of it like a tricycle .. eventually working your way up to an expensive road bike.

An electric razor will probably be a bit too much if he only has a little hair. It's also bad on the skin, especially if he's a teenager and has acne.

Those multiple blade razors are hard to control and again, just like the electric razor, they're for guys with a lot of hair.

son says dont buy him an electric shaver if he has sensitive skin,
Gillette sensor , grey
something with a good moisterising strip, hand razor
also maybe get him some Witch hazel to use after washing soap off face to minismise any irritation and good for pimples

Electric. Normal shavers are easier to cut yourself with, especially on your face.

buy him an electric shaver . its about $25 + or -. not mach 3 at all because it is too sharp and it may cuuse him razer burn or even cut skin, at a young age. so as a starter electric is the best u can find it in any duane reade, rite aid, walgreens, wal mart or target.
