File a police report. You'll still be suspect if your gun is involved in a crime, but it's a step toward covering yourself.

Buy another one and this time keep the handgun where no one can steal it.......a good place is on you loaded and concealed for personal protection as you or someone else is going to be robbed with the handgun you had stolen in the near future! Get a permit if it's possible...if not going to jail is not as bad as being caught in a situation and murdered by simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time unarmed! In American, the U.S. Congress and courts legislate law-abiding citizens criminals simply by denying them their U.S. Constitutional right to keep and bear arms for their own protection. At the same time....Congressional members and Judges carry weapons for their own protection and look at the criminal backgrounds of these same individuals! It should be mandatory....that law-abiding American citizens carry firearms at all times, after receiving firearms training and passing the safety course! Criminals would think twice before attacking those in the general public who are also armed, knowing there will be a good chance they also will be shot should they decide to prey upon society with criminal activity! Individuals should receive 3 years training by their 21 birthday, after passing several background checks, including medical and mental evaluations.

Oviously, u have to lodge a FIR to the nearby police station within 24hours , u should have authenticate licence for holding the said handgun, so as to avoid any criminal proceedings arising out of this subsequently. There should have an insurance policy for getting price of the thieft gun if addmissible , otherwise there is hardly any chance for getting back the stolen gun from police. Private detective may also help u in this matter.

No, seriously, you really need to report it stolen. If the gun is involved in a crime than you'll be a key suspect if you don't report it.

If you don't tell anybody than it looks like you're hiding something, and they may not even bother looking for another suspect, just the gun so they can try to pull your prints off of it.

Its just an awful situation and its gonna suck for a while, but you just have to be smart about it.

If someone stole something like a pistol from me, first, I would tell myself how stupid I am for not keeping the weapon in a safe place. What if a small child had found the weapon before the thief got to it? Huh?

Dont tell the police actually dont tell anyone trust me. Just pretend u never had the gun and u will never get arrested. If its involved in a crime and the cops come question you just say u have never owned a handgun in your life.
