Heard something about end times. Can someone explain to me the reasoning behind 2012 as the final year?

“2012 is sometimes claimed to be a great year of spiritual transformation (or apocalypse). Many esoteric sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order.”

2012 is the end of the Mayan Calendar (or the end of a long cycle of it) from what Ive heard. I also have heard its mentioned in the Torah or some other book that 2012 has an apocalyptic or world changing event.

Actually it was the mayan calendar.
Ilearned that in class today so i feel like being a jerk about it
Ya the mayans had a calendar that went from what they thought was the beggining of time to the end of time which they think is 2012

In the Aztec calendar this year is marked as the end of the world. They believe this was when it was all going to end. I don't think so though....when the end really comes, we won't even see it coming....
