My first reaction is that I think it is great that he is looking that (issue) in the face. I am convinced there were private motivations for the war so that picture just makes me even less respect for Bush for him to continue in light of people like that.

There's no context. One doesn't know if Gallegos was burned as a result of a combat action or if it happened during a non-combat accident. It also "hints" that the President couldn't look the badly burned Marine in the face. But, it's possible that they had looked at each other, shook hands, and (as they parted) this guy from Reuters took the picture.

Just a few minutes of publicity, Bush shows him and everyone else that he cares, oh how sympathetic he is, take a few pictures, and then forget that guy for good and go on with his life (which consists of sending *more* men to suffer the same fate, or worse).

Any newspaper photograph should tell a story. I'm not totally impressed by this one but it does meet the basic criteria.

No, the pic is real. The "doctored" part of it is Bush trying to act like he cares.
