I enjoyed it immensely, thank you very much. You are introducing me to new and wonderful things which, I being from a different culture (though mine is old world, rich culture!), hadn't encountered hitherto. I looked up the lyrics too. Actually, I found nothing unorthodox(?) in sounds or lyrics. I liked the Singer's voice too and the lyrics speaking of man's greed and destruction in the name of progress quite meaningful....

Thank you once again for the beautiful experience...you are my 'Guru' now (progressed from being my 'son'!)...Wonderful.

Yes, but I thought you meant like Anthony Smith's "If That Ain't Country" or Warren Brothers' "Change".

"Seminole Wind" is John Anderson's finest artistic moment, and I'm sure many record execs were kicking themselves that the guy behind "Swingin'" disappeared for 10 years and they never chased him down to sign him. John's still got it.

- Did you know that Anderson was a rocker in his teens? -

I do actually.

Let's see here, we've got....
Drums, Bass Guitar, Piano, Fiddle, Banjo, Pedal Steel, a very distant Mandolin and a Mark Knopfler guitar track.
John's "stamped" twangy vocal, a backup vocal track and some backup ooo's.

No real unorthodox instrumentation here. A fairly common country combination actually.

Lyrically..."I listened close and I heard the ghost Of Oseola cry"
unorthodox - hum...
unique - !

My guess is it was his one of a kind voice and his eerie dark age mix and production that popped this song into orbit.

I agree. "Seminole Wind" is his best moment. Although, for sentimental reasons, his "Straight Tequila Night" still gives me vertigo!

Unorthodox lyrics?... Sure.... I like the paraody type songs which make fun of the popular music of the time. I like play on words type songs.

Unorthodox sounds?... I enjoyed the great attempt of mixing Celtic Music and Western Music by The Chieftans with the different instruments involved.... I also enjoy listening to Western Swing done by a good Cajun band.... and that's about as "Unorthodox" as it gets !!!!!... **grin**

My Zodiac sign is Gemini, so I have that split persoality thing going on. I like rock, rap, and old (70' & 80"s) country.

My fave older country singers and some of their songs are:

1. Waylon Jennings all time fave. Sexy , rough voice and no afraid to admit to his drug habit (s)! Fave songs:

"Rainy Day Woman"

"Amanda"

"Mama's Dont Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboyws" (with Willie Nelson, who I really cant stand

"Bob WIllls is Still the King"

"A Good Hearted Woman In Love with a Good Timin ad "(w/ Willie 2)

And lots of others, I know CD #'s more than song names.
Oh and I LOVE theat song that is about "Seven Spanish Angels in he Valley of the gun ,they were praying for the lovers.....etc" That he sang with Ray Charles and I believe Wille agai.

Also LOVE Johnny Cash, his voice, how truthful he was bout his life in his lyrics and how him an June are such a cute couple..

More older singers I like are Merle Hagard and Don WIlliams.

Also like Hank Jr. and Sr. and Montgomery Gentry.
