My daughter has been waking up 3-4 times a night for the past few days, and tonight I noticed her diaper rash was getting worse (so I'm assuming that's what waking her up.) Is there anything I can do to help sooth the rash throughout the night to help her sleep? I'm assuming that when she wakes up it is from wetting her diaper, and bothering the sores. Also, I think she is teething too. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I never thought it would work, but our 14 year old neighbor told us to use vaseline first and then sprinkle corn starch over the top of that. I was amazed at how quickly it rid our sons of diaper rash. It's the best home remedy that I've ever seen, and I highly recommend it.

Maybe give her some baby Tylenol or something for the teething pain, and try this diaper rash home remedy. I think you'll all be resting easier tonight. Good luck!

Diaper rash can be really painful. I think the best ointment for a really bad diaper rash is Desitin. You can layer it on thick and just keep the area clean. Change her diaper as often as you can as soon as she needs it. Let her go without a diaper and let her tush be exposed to the air if you can. I would absolutely NOT recommend using a hair dryer because you could so easily burn her and that would be so much worse. Please don't try that. I have never heard of it and it sounds like it could be disasterous. Teething can cause loose stools which can more easily lead to diaper rash. Some babies have really sensitive skin and get diaper rashes easily and can get bad and really painful diaper rashes. Once she is over this dreadful diaper rash be sure to continue to use something on her skin every time you change her to prevent more rashes. You may even find that she needs to use Desitin every day.

My daughter started getting diaper rash when she was teething.. lose stools.. higher acidity in them more or less started the rash.

What I'd do.. is their little bum just burns .. so during the day.. if she has a poo.. clean her with warm water in your sink or bath.. and then fill your sink or bath with warm water once you've rinsed her bum.. and sprinkle baking soda in the warm water. Let her sit in that for about 10-15 minutes. It helps soothe the burning from the rash.

After she has soaked... take her out and let her air dry for 10-15 minutes. My daughter.. I'd just let her crawl around after her soaking.. and it was fine.. you do this .. because the air helps dry the rash up.

When that time is up.. put Balmex or Destin on her bum and personal area.. and diaper her back up.

Do this every poo she has through out the day.. and do it after her nightly bath too.

When it's time for bed.. just make sure she has a fresh diaper and balmex or destin on her bum before she goes to sleep.

And if she cries in the night .. get up and be sure to change her asap. If she has a poo in the night.. don't do the soaking.. just clean her well and re apply the ointmnet and diaper her back.

The thing is.. if you do all this .. it will give her some relief.. but it also will help heal her little bum so much faster !

Basically .. the alcohol in most wipes.. it burns the rash more.. so using just warm water is far better.

Letting her soak in warm water and baking soda after she has a poo and is rinsed.. that gives her some relief from the burn.

Letting her air dry.. helps dry out and heal the diaper rash.

And the ointment, Balmex or Desitin acts as a barrier to keep the urine, or poo from away from her skin.

So all of it matters.

Also, make a point of changing her diapers at least every 3 hours during the day, to make sure that her diaper is as clean as possible.. think of it this way.. a rash is like a wound.. and would you want dirt on a wound?? No.. you'd want a clean bandaid.. and so with diaper rash.. you dont' want urine or poo on it any longer than needs be.. so make sure you change her diaper frequently and be sure to use the ointment.

If your baby has a rash that is so bad it wakes her and has sores she should have already seen her pediatrician. It could be a yeast rash known as thrush. Assuming you have tried ointments, that may be the case as it will not clear up on its own, only get worse. Have you tried ontments at every diaper change? My daughter is seven weeks old and has very sensitive skin. A&D ointment has beena godsend, just apply it at every diaper change, always keep that area clean and apply after she has dried from the wipes. Please be careful with some of the remedies you will read about, your child may be allergic to different things. Make sure it is not thrush through your ped. though, no need for that baby to be hurting so bad as to wake up, use common sense as a parent.

A diaper rash that is getting worse instead of better after a few days could be thrush. Thrush is a yeast infection that many infants get either as a diaper rash or in their mouths. It needs to be treated with an anti-fungal medication.

It is characterized by a very angry red rash with clearly defined borders and often has small whitish bumps. It can also appear in the mouth as white or yellowish patches on the tongue that will not brush off easily and will bleed if scraped at.

To minimize the pain of a thrush diaper rash you want to keep baby out of diapers as much as possible to allow it to dry out. I have found cornstarch to help as well.

If you are breastfeeding, take some fresh breast milk and put it on the diaper rash and let it help dry up the rash itself, if not I looked up some home remedies (the last one, scorched flour is one my mother has tried) and remember when you change her diaper to let her air out a bit. I also hear putting your hair dryer on the lowest setting and just gently blow drying baby's bottom helps.

Ingredients: Oliver Oil & Water
Instructions: Whisk a tablespoon of olive oil with 5 drops of water until it forms a smooth creamy texture. Apply to affected area.

Ingredients: Corn Starch, Desitin & Vasaline
Instructions: Sprinkle babies bottom with the corn starch, just a light sprinkle to cover the area. Next cover with the Desitin and lastly layer with the Vasaline.

Ingredients: Milk of Magnesia
Instructions: Pour the milk of magnesia all over the affected area, and repeat until rash has gone.

Ingredients: Cod Liver Oil Capsules
Instructions: Open the capsules and pour the oil over the affected area.

Ingredients: Flour & Frying Pan
Instructions: Put enough flour into the frying pan for a couple of
applications. Then on medium heat, keep stirring the flour until it turns a light golden brown. Apply a light dusting at each diaper change.

If she has open sores then you need to take care of them first.

A few things you can do is try baby power, or corn starch on her bottom.
You might also try some petroleum jelly (Vasoline) to keep her urine off of her skin.
If you can get her comfortable enough to sleep, then tomorrow let her go for a little bit without a diaper, just to let her bottom get some air. That might work tonight as well.
If you can let her sleep without her diaper. Unless she may go again in the night and roll around in it.
Most importantly, keep her bottom clean!!!! And go get some diaper rash cream tomorrow.

Hope this helps.

Well, diaper rash is caused from excess moisture, so it's very important that you change your daugther's diapers often and as soon as possible to make sure she stays dry and clean. Always use Desitin and baby powder. My parents always used Desitin on me and my brother when we were babies and neither of us have ever gotten a diaper rash before.

For babies and young children, it's very soothing to rub their backs, so it should help put your daughter back to sleep if she wakes up in the middle of the night. Afterall, who doesn't like a nice back rub?

Papaw ointment, it saved my life, well maybe not that dramatic, lol. My daughter ended up having gastro at 4mo and she was hospitalized for 2 days and on a drip because she was so dehydrated. Anyway because of the diarrhea she had a burnt bottom because of all the acid going through. I bought huge jars of the stuff and smeared it on really thick, a good half a centimeter and it created a barrier and also moisturized the skin underneath. You can use it on cuts, bites, abrasions, burns and a lot of other stuff. You can get it from a chemist of super market, it is a little expensive, but so worth it. Hope that helps. Btw it is in a red jar with black writing.

A very old home remedy.....parch a thin layer of flour in the broiler part of the oven for about 3-5 minutes place in a cloth diaper (now that's novel) or baking cloth allow to cool....dust babies bottom with the parched flour through the cloth....repeat at each diaper change....the rash will be gone in a couple of days....
