Garaged for 7 months, upon return and purchase of new battery, bike will not start. No clicking sound or any sound at all when trying to start. Have tried in neutral, in 2nd gear rolling, with side stand up and down. What else could I try or should i look for. I talked to a mechanic and he told me to try the solenoid(touching the two bolts with a pair of pliers at the same time causing a spark) but i do not know how to locate the solenoid. Help.

12 NOV-So im not sure what the deal is, but i went out again, just rolled her back and forth, rocked her, turned the wheel a few times, then tried to start and it fired up. ran it a few minutes then turned her off. then tried to restart her but no luck. she wont start everytime i try to. i have tried to narrow it down to what gets it to fire but i havent had any luck. i removed the spark plugs and the ends where black. i figured since i had them out to just replace them either way. hopefully that was the issue. but if not, any other ideas?

what he's telling you is to jump the 2 starter terminals with a screwdriver.
was the new battery charged?
find out and make sure the battery has a full charge
Suzuki bikes are notorious for wiring harness problems where the terminals inside the harness plug connectors corrode and make a bad electrical connection, and you also have a switch at the clutch handle and at the kickstand, that keeps it from starting, also check the red kill switch, on Suzuki and Kawasaki bikes that kill switch sticks in a closed position

The battery positive cable goes to the starter solenoid.
The other cable on the solenoid goes to the starter motor.
Touching those 2 together is like hooking a battery up directly to the starter motor.

hmm... make sure it's not something silly, like the kill switch being 'off'

sounds like a wiring issue otherwise.

as an aside, if I remember right, the SVs went to FI in 2003, so yours is carbed. if it sat for 7 months, you may as well take some time to clean the carbs now, before you get it running.

Have you tried pulling in the clutch when you start it? Or is that too obvious.
