Apparently, if you want to retain more information, it is best to walk around while you are reading etc....the brain is more alert when you are on your feet and moving, so in theory it helps keep all of your brain active - I learnt this from my chiropractor who is very very smart, and has to retain alot of knowledge himself.

This worked for me. As I read from a text, I used a highlighter and marks special words as i went. Words that when I thumbed through the same area for review,I could just look at the words I highlighted and remember the entire paragraph.
If you go through the same material a time or two those words just bring it all back.
If I had a list of things, I would take the first letter of each and them make up a stupid sentence using those first letters. And I could remember the stupid sentence. (ie a young, yellow fox can eat a pie) and then all I had to do is remember what "a" was and what "y" was and what each first letter stood for. I would then right down on a 3x5 card, all my codes and when I reviewed I just followed my card.

Hope that helps.

I would draw silly pictures. I seem to be a visual person. For example:

Krashen's comprehensible input strategy and Cummins - Bics and kalp - I would draw a crashing car with an exclamation point, a a bic lighter burning some seaweed. (kelp)

doesnt make alot of sense to most people, but I knew exactly what was going on because I created the schema.

Try the above website for many flashcards.
Also, try to give yourself a memory hook and then recognize the relationship among the facts.
With my students, I give them a way to remember information. Like what does the octave do in an Italian sonnet,. I tell them to remember QUIP. QUestion, Idea, Problem. Then I tell them it's common sense for what the sestet does. A question needs an answer, and idea needs to be driven home, and a problem needs to be solved.

Good luck.
