A WEEKEND WITH DORIS DAY!!

It’s my birthday!! I hate getting older, but I will forever be young at heart. Every year I tell Charlie to send me no flowers, but he always sends me a dozen red roses. What can I say? It’s a great feeling, after all these years, to know he still loves me!! He also gave me an MP3 player, so I downloaded some of my favorite Doris Day tunes, “Lullaby of Broadway, Love Me or Leave Me, Lover Come Back, and On Moonlight Bay.”

That evening we went out to eat at our favorite Chinese restaurant, “Wu Ben’s.” They had a special, “With Six You Get Egg Roll,” so we ordered six pints of our favorites including Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Chop Suey, Chow Mein, Moo Goo Gai Pan, and Szechuan Chicken, refried rice and hot tea. Needless to say, we brought most of it home. No cooking for me this weekend!!

Later, Charlie and I played a little strip Pajama Game we invented. It’s basically strip poker, except we start out wearing pajamas. It doesn’t take very long to get naked, but that is the point! Then, we moved into the bedroom for the next phase of our fun, “Pillow Talk!” After that, we both got lucky. “Lucky Charlie! Lucky Me!"

I must say I was delighted to discover one of the cable channels was having a Doris Day-A-Thon that next day. So, we pretty much just stayed in bed eating microwaved Chinese takeout, and watching several of her movies “West Point Story--with Gordon MacRae, Calamity Jane--with Howard Keel, Young Man with a Horn--with Harry James and Kirk Douglas, and That Touch of Mink--with Cary Grant."

What a great weekend!! Thank you, Doris Day!!

Drat, those damn goats are in the backyard!
