Names:

Frodo
Samwise
Boromir
Gimli
Aragorn
Elrond

So far, my favorite name is Saruman. My wife is due soon, so we're creating as many names as possible and selecting the best one. We agreed on a name from the LOTR universe.

Please. Please do not give him a lotr name. He will be teased for it and if you do he will give himself a different name. I beg you dont name him any of those

Since I'm a fan too I sort of fancy the idea, but I'm not a fan of any of your suggestions. You could use one of those as a middle name perhaps. Please also think about the character you're naming him after. I mean Saruman?! Why not go for Sauron while you're at it. LOL Saruman's a nice name though, agreed. (I'll get so many thumbs downs for this answer...) I rather like Samwise too, although the name supposedly means 'half-wise'. Aragorn has got to be the ugliest name ever, sorry. Why not consider some softer, less obviously LOTR/Tolkien names also. There's an amazing variety to choose from. [see below] Some of my suggestions would be: Beren, Brand and Eomer [!]. I used to know a girl whose name was Jennifer Tinuviel. It was sort of stealthy and she liked the name and the association with Lúthien along with the meaning 'nightingale'.

I think it's great that you want to name your son after something that you are so fond of and that has extra meaning to you. And the names are unique - which are also great.

As the LOTR names have addisional meanings, I would first check their meanings before considering then. Furthermore, should it be too obvious, like Frodo, your son would always be made fun of as "the Hobbit", so it may be a good idea to think what the public associate the name with, as well as maybe opting for a less familiar, but still very LOTR name. It's also maybe a good idea to go with a name that can be shortened into a "normal" name, should your son not like it.

I suggest you work through the characterlist as you can decide on a name which "sound" you like and you have immediate access to the meanings too! You could even consider place/river/etc names!

My suggestions are Theoden (Theo), Dain, Eomer, Rohan & Lindon (Elves of...)

Good luck and congratulations!
Hope this helps!

There is no f*ing way you are serious. Thats not even funny. First off, nobody in their right mind would name a child Gandalf. Second, nobody even remotely sane would think that Legolas is a good replacement for Bilbo. I love LOTR too, and I know that they're are plenty of less ridiculous names in that book. I even know an Indian kid name Rohan. Go back through the book and find something not insane. Read the appendicies for goodness sake. If you are serious, which I very highly doubt, what about Pippin, or Tom? Eladin (elronds son) or go find one of Bilbo's normally named relatives.

I think you should avoid naming him after any of the well known characters, especially after anyone in the fellowship. Everyone's so familiar with these characters, your son will get teased a lot when he grows up.
Try to find something that could pass as a 'normal' name like "Sam" (instead of Samwise) or Tom (after Tom Bombadil). Or pick a lesser-known character like Haldir, Gildor, etc.
If you want to be creative, you could create your own lotr-sounding names out of Sindarin, Quenya or any of the lotr languages.

Oh! This poor baby will be teased so much in school. Please think of the kid before you name him Frodo because of an obsession. I can't believe your wife is agreeing to this. I like the Lord of the Rings to believe me great movies, great actors, and books. Maybe you should look into the actors name's if it has to be associated with the LOTR. What about these:
ACTOR CHARACTER
Bruce Aldor
Sean Sam
Orlando Legolas
Paris Theodred
Christopher Saruman the White
And if you absolutely have to do it what about just Sam for Samwise or Theo for Theodred or Al for Aldo. Good Luck with every thing.

I don't really agree with the people before me. I don't think your child will be all that teased for having a LOTR name as long as it sounds good.

Personally I don't think you should go for Frodo, Samwise, Legolas or Bilbo. Frodo=Fredo Frog, Samwise=the wise at the end, Legolas=Legos, Bilbo=...maybe my mind's just in the gutter. But the others sound alright.

Here are some more that I think will sound okay:
Theoden
Denethor
Faramir
Elrond

Congrats on your baby =)

I would say, name him ________ Frodo __________. Don't give him an LOTR first name. That's a bit cruel, no matter if you love LOTR or not. Although I love the name Ileana from T*Witches, I would not name a child that, at least not the first name.

my hubby is a LOTR fan too but please don't call your son Froddo or Samwise Gangee or Gimli!

Saruman is okay but I think Elrond would be better. Its just nicer in the sense that its more familiar to non-lotr fans!

Stay away from Treebeard and Gollum.
How about Arod? The public would be more accepting of it, because they would think you named him after the baseball player, or even tennis player Andy Roddick who is sometimes called A-Rod.
How about Fangorn? You can call him Fang for short.
I actually like Aragorn.
Good luck on deciding.

If you want to incorporate a LOTR name then use it as a middle name and not a first name.
I like Aragorn out of all of them.
