If, by intuition, you mean a geometric representation showing squares on each of the sides of the triangle, then that diagram may be appropriate.

However, for simplicity, just take the bigger and smaller square as shown in Proof #4 in http://www.cut-the-knot.org/pythagoras/index.shtml

Proof #9 expands on that further and makes the result clearer.

There are many ways to prove the pythagorean theorem and I really don't like the one you linked. So I hate you kind of. JaJaJa.

formula = a squared + b squared = c squared
