√20 = √5*4 = √5*2*2 = √5 * 2 = 2√5

Square root (20) = square root(4*5) because we can factor under the radical: 20 = 4*5
When you factor the radical, you can break it into 2 radicals multiplied by each other:
Square root(4*5) = square root(4) * square root(5)
Since square root(4) = 2, we get
2 * square root(5)

So all together, you have 2 * square root(5) / 2. The twos cancel because of the division sign, so you are left with
square root(5)
