I have had months of trouble trying to get my Striped RAID motherboard working again after the capacitors blew. I finally got the problem figured out (I thought) and just got the motherboard back from a guy who replaced all large caps.

After reinstalling my motherboard it wouldn't even flicker on. While reviewing pics I was going to post to see if anything was my fault, I found my RAM to be seemingly missing a piece. http://img31353.pictiger.com/images/13030823/ Is this the cause of my computer not showing any signs of power-on or is there more to blame. (I'm tired of spending money on this in order to recover my hard drives' contents.) I can provide more pics if needed.

Thanks for any help!

The reason I have not just purchased a new motherboard is because I can't find one that will allow me to get the data off of my hard drives. That is why I had the caps replaced.

OK for starters if you have caps on your motherboard that are blown what you do is replace the mother board, its faster and cheaper then trying to have someone replace the caps.
another thing that ram your using is kvr266ddr1 from Kingston its
ah suppost to have a center chip and doesn't, I'm sorry bud your kind of screwed, and need to think about rebuilding you computer.
OK sorry for some reason you cant reply to other responses....
stripe is for performance not data protection....THEE only way and i mean only chance he may have....would be to trick windows =/ with the same board (new/working blown caps usally CANT be fixed)
and you can zoom in one shot, most kingston chips of that time have a center chip look at the extra 2 silver linings missing a chip...
I'm not a know it all, I'm a tech. sorry for the let down.

Edit: The chip IS supposed to be missing like I said. The other "answers" are partly right.
Here is your RAM part

The RAID issue is not causing your computer not to start. Although you will not be able to rebuild the array. Striping has no redundancy. Another motherboard of the exact SAME model is your best bet.Play around with initializing RAID setups, but DO NOT format the drive when it asks. Replacing the motherboard (with the same model if you want to try to get your RAID 0 working again) would be the first step and then testing other components like your power supply.

Actually, the missing chip on the RAM module is quite normal. Your PC should turn on even without any RAM in it. I would suggest checking the capacitors to see if the tops of any of them are bulging or leaking. If it was indeed a capacitor issue before, other components may have been affected on the motherboard. The fact that it does not even turn on is a serious issue and will probably require the motherboard being replaced. Motherboards are cheap right now though from the likes of newegg.com. What piece? Seems intact, you really need a super close up photo if someone is to see what is wrong with the hardware, if your aim is only recover RAID you might even just put together a new machine with RAID, although strip mode RAID is one that need to have a completely intact array.
