If Tylonol PM or other medications are out of the question, take a warm bath with the lights low or even off, make your room/house as dark as you can without hurting yourself, (turn your computer off), and turn on something that makes a constant noise, like a fan. The louder the better as long as the sound is consistant. That's just the short term. For longer term, try searching "answers" for similar questions. Sleep tight.

In addition to the warm milk or cocoa after turning off your computer, take a book to bed with you. If you don't drop off to sleep, you'll live. Get back up again but stay off the computer.

I agree with the turn off the computer comment.

You know what everyone talks about but no one ever tries?
WARM MILK!
You'll be surprised how well it works.
I don't like it straight...I have to make hot chocolate out of it.

In the future, I suggest creating a small sequence of things you do every night to tell your body, "it's time to go to sleep." Also, never forget that regardless of how hard it may seem tonight, sleep has come naturally and easily thousands of times before; all that is required is that you close your eyes, relax, and dedicate yourself to quieting the chatter of your mind. and getting rest. Your body knows what to do, and knows how to make perfect sleep with the attitude you supply it.

Additionally, if you are having chronic or persistent insomnia that is bothering you, examine your day and your late evenings for things that would keep you up. For example, caffeinated drinks, smoking tobacco, participating in "fight-or-flight" experiences, and focusing intently on a specific subject can keep your mind from ever reaching the ideal place where sleep is easy to attain. Barring these variables, consider your mental health and any medications you are taking; if after exploring these areas, you believe that they are contributing to problematic and chronic insomnia, contact your family physician and psychologist to determine the course of action best suited to your health.

Just wanted to comment on the benadryl suggestions... it is a good idea OCCASIONALLY, but don't do this on a regular basis as it will eventually have a rebound effect and you will end up feeling like you have your finger in an electrical socket all the time!

Try to give up trying.
Take a warm bath.
Make some warm milk with honey (this worked so well for my daughter recently... she said "I hate milk and I hate honey, why is this so good?" and was asleep within 20 minutes.
A little self-pleasuring might help too. Just a thought.

Go to bed, close your eyes and pretend your alarm went off. You'll be out in 10 minutes.

Don't use the computor, this is the worst thing for you. It keeps you awake.

Take a glass of warm milk, make your room completely dark, make yourself comfy and just try to lay down.
