A wireless router is NOT an internet connection nor is the wireless adapter in a laptop.

The Wireless adapter in a laptop must communicate with a wireless router. Which is part of a Local Area Network.

To connect the Network to the Internet you must have a DSL MODEM and an existing Internet Account.

Laptop's with Wireless adapters can also connect to Public Networks called HOTSPOTS, and most are free.

That type of wireless I just explained is called WiFi.
There is another type of Wireless called NEXT G, which is an internet connection using the Cell Phone System, but it is very expensive.

Typically no, the only "router" out in the mass market is Wi-Fi kind and there is no fee associate with it if you own the device itself.
