I made the decision, last week to put my loyal, trusty, 15 year old black lab, Cassidy, to sleep. She is sick and her body is wearing out on her and I cannot let her suffer. I have been sobbing on and off for days because I am going to miss her so much, she is my best friend and she means so much to me. The fact that she will not be here to lick my face or greet me when I come home from work makes me miserable. I have a presentation for work tomorrow but my eyes are very puffy and red and this will not go away and I also have a terrible headache since I started crying and it will not go away either. Any suggestions?

Awww ... I'm so sorry. But you are doing the right thing. As hard as this is on you, Cassidy will be much happier, not suffering.
As far as the puffy eyes, try a wet washcloth over your eyes. If you get a warm one, then lay down in bed with it over your eyes, it'll bring down the swelling, and hopefully relax you a little as well. You are probably suffering partially from a sinus headache (due to the crying), so the warm water will help with that. Maybe you'll be able to fall asleep for a while and not worry so much. Take care!

I am sorry that you had to have to make such a hard decision. Fifteen years old for a dog is a long time.
A long time ago my mother told me that my dog Nicky ( a poodle mix) would be upset to see me crying. She would be very sad. She suggested that I try to remember her and all of the good times that we had together. While I was still upset over having lost my dog, her advice helped me.
Try to take something like Tylenol P.M. It will help get rid of the headache and help you to get some much needed sleep.
When I have been crying a lot - I usually go rinse my face in cold water - it just feels so good and refreshing.
You might also want to take a hot bath and just soak and try to relax.
Remember - things will get easier as time goes on. Good luck.

Oh, I know how you feel. I put my cat, Heidi, to sleep almost 3 weeks ago. She was 17. : (
Maybe some cold washcloths on your eyes would help.
I miss my little Heidi. She was a great friend. You must have been a great owner and friend to have Cassidy so long. Be strong. Know that she had the best life.

That is so sad!! I love animals...and I know where you're coming from! Your eyes need flushed out, I know it sounds weird, you just flushed them out with tears! But get some water in them and put some cucumber slices on your closed eyelids, or cut a potato in half and do the same for about 10-15. And don't cry yourself to sleep! They get really bad then!
