Now that I have a 2 year old of my own, I actually worry more, probably because you hate to see your child upset or in pain. I used to not think as much about it. I always assume screaming by someone is a bad thing (unless it's in a bedroom). I guess I am always a worrier though, I still worry when my wife is gone longer that I expect.

A tantrum....kids are known to throw them just about everywhere. I would never assume something is wrong unless I feel there is a reason. My friends child once hung on a shopping cart screaming "help me, help me" the whole way through the store because she didn't get the popcorn she wanted from the little eat-in section. Bad choice of words, but it was just a typical attempt to sway mom to give her what she wanted...or maybe she was hoping someone else would get her some popcorn. Children can bring a lot of embarassment, but they are really innocent little beings testing their boundries. I would in some situations look to see if the child might be alone or lost.

First off, I would never take small children to a $50 a plate restaurant and when hubby and I do go to a nicer restaurant, I dont expect to hear children screaming over my dinner. I do have 3 children, so I am very aware of how children can act, therefore taking them places where people are paying a substational amount of money to eat is just rude and very inconsiderate of others. If im going to a local food chain, chili's, red lobster, etc, then that kind of behavior is tolerable, however, still should require a parent removing the child.

well I deal with tantrums on a daily basis, but if I were to hear someone scream, I would think something was wrong, so I guess fear the worst.

I assume the worst. And sometimes a tantrum is actually the worst, so I guess that means I assume correctly.

I assume it's a tantrum but if it's in a store or something I'll look around to make sure a kid isn't lost.

I usually assume tantrum. It seems like if they're angry/grumpy and screaming, it's a tantrum. If they were panicking, terrified screaming, etc, I might think it was something bad.

I have 14 nephews and nieces... so I can always tell the differance. But I always feel hurt for the poor kid... even if it's a tantrum.

Depends really on where, when and who. The neighbor kids always scream so something bad could happen to them and no one would pay any attention. But usually I guess I assume something has caused it.
