Rock or Hip Hop?

Question

This question gets my attention. Almost everyone in school is a rap guy and theres only about ten rockers in school.

Here's my opinion:
Rappers are guys who talk fast and are TRYING to be poets
Add some crappy dance moves(crank that by soulja) that looks gay and there's hip hop
Rockers write music, they play instruments and make songs. They write with their heads and play with their hands. Unlike rappers who talk about sex, money, drugs and being famous, rockers have a lot of topics.

Amen. I think that rock needs to be listened to by more people. Personally, I prefer rock more than hip hop. Some of my favorite bands are Incubus, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Smashing Pumpkins, Breaking Benjamin, Goo Goo Dolls, Fall Out Boys, Hinder, Snow Patrol, 30 Seconds to Mars, The Killers, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, and other bands.
Rock is better because:
1. Rap/hip-hop is mostly just about singing/rapping about totally gangsta-like themes.
2. Rock focuses not only several themes but many. Rock talks about different themes.

i agree with everything u say. Rap, degrade women too, a lot. so thats why i dont really listen to it. Rock actually talks about like, life itself. So yeah i agree that rappers only talk about sex, money being famous,. and stupid stuff. thats why i love rock music b.c i can actually relate to it

Yeah. Those Hip Hop guys get laid way too much for the musical ability they pretend to possess. I like rock, but I play the rap when the ladies are around so I can get me some. But if one of em starts talking serious and stuff, I always change over to my rock and roll roots so as to shake em.

why should they battle?

I don't know why is it always "Hip hop vs. rock" it's just stupid.

I like both of them. I don't limit myself when it comes to music.

I SING to the top of my lungs when I listen to ROCK.

and I DANCE until I sweat when Im listening to HIP HOP.


ps. NOT all rap is negative, if you're a real hip hop head

you should listen to UNDERGROUND & OLD SCHOOL.

You should respect all genres of music, even if they're not your favorite.
and there are some rappers who I would consider poetic. For instance, Immortal Technique. I love punk music, but I don't like every single punk band I hear. . .

I prefer rock i can relate more to what they say in the songs than hiphop. there used to be some good hiphop songs but theres not any more almost all the songs that are out now sound all the same.rock has alot more variety. there are hardly any good hiphop songs left.in hiphop they brag about them selves too much. so definately any type of rock

Any type of rock is good from soft to hardcore.
I like it because of the lyrics and the instrumental skill/sound used to create this work of art we call Rock.

Why choose? they both have merits. limiting yourself to only one genre of music is stale. I listen to all types from classical to death metal, rap, dance, country, Jazz.. you name it.. it is far less boring.
