Do you think crack was purposely distributed by the government during the Reagan War On Drugs?

Do you agree or disagree with this suspicion?

It is believed by some that in an effort to incarcerate and/or kill people in the black communities, the CIA helped to make the drug "crack", a cheap base form of cocaine, readily available in such communities.

Ironicaly this plot is said to have been put into action right around the Regan War on Drugs years. Possibly to make it seem as though the then president was against drugs.

Crack has been blamed for the destruction of many poor black communities by causing hostility within the communities (turf wars), babies being born addicted to crack (crack babies), homelessness, and death.

What do you think... and why?

Yes, crack was there before Reagan... It's not suggested he was the one in the kitchen cooking it up. But it is circa his presidency when it escalated to the extremes we see the results of now.

I'm aware this isn't LATE BREAKING NEWS, thats why it isnt in the current events section. I'm just wondering how many people believe it and for what reasons.

Reagan and Bush needed to raise money for the Contra terrorists in Nicaragua, so they help set up drug networks into the US to sell cocaine.

Of course somebody had to use all those drugs, and they didn't want it to be white people.

And poor black people can't afford cocaine. So they needed something cheaper. Crack.

Makes sense to me. Does anybody have a better explanation for why all the CIA's "assets" in Central American were in the crack/cocaine business in the 1980s?

Crack existed before Reagan, so I don't see how this is even possible. It's just conspiracy nonsense. Maybe one day Obama will have invented weed! Crack is just a cheaper version of cocaine. Cocaine was a majorly popular drug amongst rich people, and so a cheaper alternative was produced and it became prevalent in poorer communities. Simple as that. The Iran-Contra Affair is a tangential relation at best. It's not a direct link like the theory implies.

Many people forgot to "just say no". I live on the Florida Panhandle and this place was ground zero for pot smuggling. At the Florabama Lounge on the beach at the state line, their logo on tee shirts is still "Save The Bale". Bales of pot would float ashore when the Coasites got to close. Half the shrimpers were supplementing their incomes by picking up bales from mother ships. After Reagan allow the use of military spy satellites to photograph bales being loaded in Columbia onto ships, the traffic stopped. Then the pot production came back with a vengeance thanks to good old Yankee ingenuity. Production shifted to domestically produced pot grown in green houses. The quality went through the roof and so did the price. Listen to some Jimmy Buffet songs. The old ones. He is from here, Mobile, Alabama and hints they he was involved too and I don't doubt it. Those were the good old days. You could take your boat through the pass early in the morning or walk the beach and chances were good that you might find a BALE.. SAVE THE BALES! You had to dry it out and it tasted sort of salty but it was ok. But tonight as 5000 barrels of crude oil are spewing into our Gulf, any bales that might still survive will be coated with BP oil.

Interesting therory i think its more likely that certain elements within the government were and still are profiting from drug trade. The movie Amercan Gangster which is based on a true story said that in the notes at the end that in 1976 3/4 of New York's Anti Drug Unit was convicted

I would think it was an attempt by the DNC or the socialists that really run the show for them to undermind Reagan and his efforts.
Much in the same way they got the Saudies to do what they did on 9-11.
Besides everyone knows the DNC uses the situation in black comunities to control them and get their votes. They just move the black folk off the plantation and into the projects. Saying that they are gonna give a hand up but only giving hand outs. Give a man a fish or teach him to fish? What side are you on? I got an extra pole for any of my brothers or sisters that have waken up.

No. Crack is simply a cheaper, more portable, more potent version of cocaine. It's all about creating a product for the masses. There's really nothing in it for the government. Now if drugs were legal and they could tax it, then yes, perhaps this theory would be plausible.

Oh yes you uncovered something very big here and must share it with the rest of the world. Did you also know that Ronald Reagan was the antichrist yes yes its true and also that George bush and dick cheney have a weather machine in the basement of the whitehouse and used it to create katrina and also the monsoon. I don't think it was a deliberate effort to damage the Black community, it was that they just didn't care. Their foreign policy games mattered more to them, because they were saving America from the evil empire that came before the current evil empires which we are now being saved from.

It wasn't as darksided as you make it sound, but the US did go easy on major cocaine distributors responsible for the crack epidemic because of their ties to Anti-revolutionary forces in Central America.
