It's always good to be safe and the flu can get very serious if left untreated.

is this common with the flu? it has never happened to me before,
I have had the flu since Friday of this week. my Fever broke a few times with ibuprofin and Aspirin taken separately. My question is It hit me again even harder today, after eating valentines day dinner with my wife and a 25 mile drive home it seemed to hit me all at once. I became very cold had shortness of breathe but not severe. I could not get warm and sat in a blanket for about 20 minutes in which time I was shaking severly, my temp rose over 4 degrees. it topped out at 101. 8 before it broke. The scary thing is my fingers were going numb when I was trying to get warm. My temp is back down to 99. 5 right now and it is usually at about 97. 2 to 97. 4 degrees. Is this the onset of something else?
am not in a position to tell you how serious this is. All your symptoms can be caused by the flu and the Anxiety that accompanied the high Fever. At the same time they can be indicative of more serious conditions. However, if the Shortness of breath is still there or recurrs or indeed if you have any doubts that this may be more serious than the flu then yes have someone look at it. The flu is usually self limited and only lasts a couple of days.

Are you pregnant? If you are then stop taking the medicine and go directly to the doctors. A fever can either be a sign of a problem with the baby or can cause a problem with the baby...and it's hard to tell the difference. You should never self medicate when you are pregnant since you do not know how the medicines will affect you or the baby. Now there are other things then the flu that can give you a fever so it's best to see what the doctor has to say about it. Good luck

Yes.It's very dangerous to have flu and fever in pregnancy. When i was pregnant my dr told me right in the beginning that if i get sick with a cold or anything similar i should do whatever i can to prevent myself from having fever.Every time i was feeling like i may get a cold or a flu i was taking ecanesia right away. It's all about keeping the baby safe even if it means going to the dr so you could hear you are fine take some tylenol and you'll be all good.I would go to the hospital.Hope all is well

Not unless there is something else really wrong - lots of pain or your fever goes over 103.
Otherwise you know the drill. Rest, fluids, Little House on the Prairie reruns, wear your jammies all day till you feel better. You could probably take Airborne - that helps me feel better.
Oh my gosh! I can't believe all the people telling you to rush to the hospital! Look, people have been giving birth for thousands of years - do you really suppose that none of them ever had a teensy fever in all that time? Honestly! It makes me cringe that they are all trying to scare you.
Just take care of yourself. you can call your doctor's answering service if you want.
Ibuprofen won't kill your baby, or damage it. But take it easy - remember, anything you take also has to be processed by the baby's liver. If you want, alternate doses of tylenol and ibuprofen every three hours. This does a great job of keepin the damper on fever and pain, and they are different types of medication, so it is less taxing on the liver.
If your fever goes up, go to the doc, otherwise, you're just wasting your time and energy to be told you have a virus and should go home and take care of yourself.

Yes honey I would go to the hospital if the tylenol has not brought your fever down after a half hour, I am assuming that you are pregnant since this is in the pregnancy folders and high fever can cause problems for the baby. Good luck and feel better.

Hospitals do not consider 100.0 a fever and they do not treat that temp. A temp isn't treated until it reaches 101. Keep an eye on the temp, keep taking the tylenol every 4 - 6 hours and increase your fluid intake. Call ur OB in the morning. If the temp gets higher than 101 then call the hospital and ask them if you should come in.

I would not rush to the ER tonight. I would try to get into your doctor first thing tomorrow. Tell them it's an emergency and usually they will fit you in. As long as your fever doesn't go above 103, the illness will just need to take it's course. Take 1,000 mgs of Tylenol (two extra strength tablets) every 4-6 hours and try the B.R.A.T. diet if you have trouble eating. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. Hope this helps.

call your doctor's answering service. they'll probably tell you to go to urgent care, but i would wait and see if the tylenol kicks in and how your fever looks in an hour or so. it is very common to catch colds when you are pregnant because the baby is getting so much from you. don't panic and i hope that you get feeling better soon...

No... They can't do anything for a viral infection. So long as you are controlling your fever with Tylenol (don't let it get above 101) then you are doing okay. Definately make an appointment with your OB/GYN, but don't rush to the ER.

Drink plenty of fluids. 100 isn't too high, but if it gets any higher call your OB/GYN and ask them what you should do. It doesn't matter what time of day you call. They have answering services and they will call you back.
My son is 3 and had a 100 degree temp today and with a couple different doses of Tylenol he is fine now.
