I often get customers who just ask questions about how to do this, how to use that, where they can go for something, etc. and after I help them out, the customers will sometimes wink at me. Most have been male but I've gotten about two females to do this to me as well (both were middle-aged though). I never really thought much about it at first but it's been happening lately. Do you think they're just happy that they got the info they needed (that I was helpful)?

This is my first job so I don't even know if this really goes about.

What are your opinions?

So this is actually common? ...Sorry, again, this is my first job. I have no idea...

I honestly can't remember the last time someone winked at me, of course I'm a guy and not a waiter, so that probably has alot to do with it.

It could be a twitch, it could be someone just being friendly, it's more likely to be someone flirting with you. However, the only way to know which one it is is to look at it in the total context of the conversation. What is the rest of their body language telling you? What other clues are you picking up from them.

An interesting statistic I've heard (don't know if it's reliable), is that by the time an average looking women is 25, she has been hit on an average of 5,000 times. Considering the number of customers you are serving, it is just like it is inevitable that you are going to get hit on. I really wouldn't worry about it much, it's just a natural consequence of human behavior.

Just ignore it. It could just be a nervous habit, could mean nothing at all, they could just be acknowledging that you gave them the info, or in some cases they could be flirting with you.

for some people it's a habit and a way of acknowledging and thanking you, maybe a twitch, maybe a flirt - no need to worry about it :)

My father was a winker, it was his strange way of saying, "Thanks Toots" and an awful lot of people do this, it is a nice gesture.
