how long do you leave it open? Do you pick a best answer or do you let it go to voting? If you do pick a best answer, how do you decide? Do you give thumbs down to the answers you don't like? Also, when voting for best answer, do you vote for yourself? And do you vote undecided questions just to get more points?

1) I leave it open till I think that I won't receive any more answers.
2) I usually pick the best answers, just one or two times best answer was chosen by voters.
3)The best answer just call me, I found voice inside me saying that's your best answer.
4)I don't if it were my question, I did if it were question for another user.
5)If I answered, yes for sure I vote for myself.
6) I used to do that in the beginning of using Y/A but no I don't.

BTW I liked your question, it is new one (for me at least:D0

I am more an Answerer than an Asker.
But the times that I have asked a question I have sometimes gone through a lot of angst trying to pick a Best Answer, especially when there are about three who merit it. It is so hard! But as an Answerer, I do appreciate those who select a Best Answer before it goes to the public vote.
I often wonder why ask a question if you have no interest in picking a Best Answer.
My pet hate is the Schoolies with their questions like:
Please give me a list of all the pharaohs of The New Kingdom and what their achievements were.
Can you please hurry as I need it in four hours!
Okay so I get sucked in to doing their homework and give them all the information, then that is it.
They seldom bother to select a Best Answer and it goes to the vote.
So I think to myself ,never again. Then some sweetie sends you a big email, really thanking you for all your help and I think, Oh well some do appreciate your efforts and and I get sucked into doing the homework again.
Giving thumbs down, I am not into much, unless the answer rely is such rubbish and or insulting.
I leave that for those who get a kick out of it.
I do give thumbs up to any answers I read and they either make good sense or make me laugh.
As for voting for myself, yes I do.
I was level 3 before I found out that we could actually vote for ourselves. DUH!
If I am bored I will go through and vote for undecided questions.I also did it when I was 50 points of 10,000 as I just wanted to get that last 50 points.
I have made a promise that now my studies are over I will begin asking some questions, so look out!

I was guilty of giving lots of thumbs down to the delightful MrT and Mrs R and NoOne, but as they were all the same person it really didn't matter.
The very thought of that creep makes me shudder.

Addit: Thank you Bakflani,
No disrespect intended, but I don't feel so bad now.
As I thought that I was the only one who thought we couldn't vote for ourselves .

I leave my questions open for 1-2 days.

I give the best answer to the most informative answer as I always feel it might be unfair to chose a best answer just because a friend posted it.

I dont normally give thumbs down, but thumbs up yes in my question for answers I like.

And yes I vote for myself.

And No I dont go around voting for undecided questions just to get more points, I do this if I feel necessary.

Well it all depends on my "mood". lol

I might leave it for just a few hrs and maybe extended it for days. I never let it go for voting. When i do pick an answer it is the one that touched my heart with its sincerity or if it's the funniest i.e i choose according to my personal preferences lol. Mahou el sou2al beta3i ba2aa.
I rarely give thumbs down except when somebody is being rude or says sthg against my religion.

As for voting i used to do that at first but not for a very long time.

Voting for undecided qs lol, you taught me that and i did it only when i got violation notices lol "payback time", but generally no i don't it is not worth it.

Ay 7'edma.

i am a really hasty person i cant leave my question for more than 4 days and sometime i close it earlier, i luv reading all the answers and do not give thumbs down until really really offensive, like some people pass unnecessary statemnets in R & S questions

i vote for the most creative and interesting or complete answer

i vote for undecided question to regain 5 points which i lost when i was asking a question and those too are alwayz carefully selected, like something like tea or coffee, u know harmless questions

i leave it open for 3 days.
i pick the best answer . only once i didnt have time to open the internet, so my question was left for votes.
i choose the most convincing answer.
i give thumbs up and down to all answers, including those that answer my questions.
sometimes i look through undecided questions to see what's there.
i may vote undecided questions when i like an answer.

I didn't know you could vote yourself for best answer. Is that a good way to get points. It doesn't seem fair.

I pick a best answer when people stop giving answers. There is no reason to have the question there when no one cares anymore.

i leave it opened till i stop getting answers.

i never let it go to voting,it only happened once by mistake.

i decide the best answer that i feel close to what i want, any other trival q,their best answers are randomly picked.

no,i don't,but i give for those who insult me.

if i feel that i wrote a long answer and i made an effort, then i yes i vote for myself, other than that i dnt care.

i vote when i am bored, not all the time

oh what a barrage of questions! why you are up so early?!
normally i pick a best answer as soon as an answer seems ok to me, i may extend if some people i want to answer still didn't..
There's no one rule how i decide who's gonna get the best answer, i mean it's a question specific..
Normally i vote for myself, but there's exceptions of course, i mean when i read some really nice answers and my answer is like a stupid one beside it i feel it's not fair to vote for myself, to give you an example, when msafwat answers beside me and sometimes when zoser gives one of his detailed info answers, so my answers seem stupid beside them if the query is informational..you know
sometimes, i may vote undecided questions but this happens when i m really bored and have the time to do so..
and good morning!..

I generally close it as early as i get some good decent answers................and yeah mostly i pick good answers.
And usually i decide that answer which is most logical or informative..........or just hit my heart...
Yeah of course i give thumbs up and thumbs down when i feel like giving some..........
Yeah once or twice i did vote myself...................kind of naughty in me.
No i rarely give votes to undecided questions just to get answers.............there are lot more things to do.
