I would say that Gwen Steffani would probably be the most talented female singer in mainstream music today. If I were to look back, I would have to go with the likes of Pat Benatar, Patti Smyth (she was Van Halen's first choice to replace David Lee Roth) Janis Joplin had one hell of a set of pipes. You also can't rule out the singer for the pretenders.
