is ditribution of music among friends legal?

if i buy a music cd and copy it on my system,give it to my friend ,he also copies it on his system,is this legal

Absolutely not.

Once you've ripped it to your system, the CD should NOT be lent to any one as you're already "space shift"-ed the content of the CD. By lending the original CD out, you're essentially making copies and distributing the copy.
