Everything Severus did to protect Harry and follow Dumbledore's instructions to the end was all for the love Lily Potter. It was the only thing that kept him going and it was maximized and used to full by Dumbledore. Dumbledore emphasized time and again that eventhough Harry may look like James, he had Lily's eyes and got more of Lily's character than James's. I don't think Severus was able to look past Harry other than being Lily's son. Even with last dying breath, he wanted to look at Lily's eyes through Harry's with his line "Look....at...me..."

It was a couple of things, really.
First of all, we know that Snape loved Lily. He went to Dumbledore when he was a death eater and told Dumbledore to help Lily. He was willing to spare James and Harry if only Lily could survive. This right here points out that his main focus was Lily.
When Snape promised Dumbledore anything for Lily's life he basically put himself at the Potters' feet. Harry didn't know this, of course, but Dumbledore made Snape basically promise that he will help watch Harry. He pointed out that if Snape didn't help Harry then Lily's death would be in vain. Because of his love for Lily (as pointed out above), Snape did all of the things that Dumbledore asked, all in the name for Lily.
I don't think that Snape really liked Harry. I think he loved Lily, but hated Harry because he was so much like his father. It's hard to tell. I think that's part of the mystery though that makes this relationship so amazing. We don't really know what Snape felt towards Harry... we only know of his love for Lily.
hope that helped :)

Its somewhat how he cared for lilly because he didn't want her death to be in vain, and since he loved Lily so much, he would of done anything for her. Everytime Snape looked at Harry, he was reminded of James, but since Harry's eyes were the same as Lily's he still cared for Harry a little tiny bit. Most likely there was a tiny little spot in his heart for Harry, because of their similarities. Overall, I think that it was a little bit of both but mainly in the spirit of Lily.

He cared for Harry because he was Lily's son. Harry serves as the only thing that can remind Severus of Lily, especially because of the eyes...

It was all for Lily. Remember, when Snape looked at Harry all he could really see was was James. Or more accurately, all he wanted to see. He didn't want to see Lily in Harry's eyes, didn't want them to remind him of her and what could have been. But because he so deeply loved Lily, and because Harry was her son, he was willing to secretly help Harry so a piece of his lost love could live on.

He cared only for Lily. He ended up protecting Harry as an extension of his love for Lily - looking out for the one person she gave her life for. However, he never really liked Harry. It was all for Lily.
