In most respects, I'm happy for the drivers that have migrated from open-wheel to NASCAR in the last few years. Here's why:
* Hornish: Won the Indy 500 and several championships. Has also IROC experience. What more is there for him to accomplish in open-wheel racing?
* Franchitti: Won the Indy 500 and his first championship. He's also a little older than most open-wheel racers, and is already used to other forms of racing. Again, he was ready for a new challenge
* Villeneuve / Montoya: Both Indy 500 winners, both F-1 winners, both legends in open wheel racing, and have won open-wheel championships. "TinTops" are something different, and being foreign drivers, an incredible, yet exciting, challenge.
Don't expect these guys to blow the doors off NASCAR racing, to be honest. Not for a while. It's a whole new beast when the car is twice as heavy.
While I will miss their presence at the IRL races this coming year, I do know they have accomplished much in their open-wheel careers. It's those open-wheel drivers that are just peaking that change to NASCAR - those are the ones that truly "get away" and burns my biscuit.

The IRL has some good new drivers that will get a chance this year. Some good 2nd generation drivers coming up soon might help the IRL. I still say the IRL and Champ Car need to merge and have more races to keep drivers from leaving though. Most drivers want more races. If the 2 series would merge (I know Tony George will not let that happen) they could easily have 25 races or more.

I think the more talent in the field the better, but they all need to stay out of the Busch/nationwide series next year. The feeder series drivers who are being groomed for Nextel are having trouble making a name for themselves with all the cup stars casting shadows on them.

Why did both Sam and Dario go to NASCAR???!!!!! Thats like a step DOWN from where they were in the IRL!!!!!!!!! They should have gone UP to Formula One!!!!!!!!!! They are both earning like 3 million a year in IRL and I don't know why they would need more money!!!!!! NASCAR goes 50 mph slower than Indy and only go to Oval courses! Half of IRL's courses are road courses, so they are more fun and more challenging! NASCAR is sooooooooooooo annoying! It is wiping out Open wheel! What is soo great about it????!!!! It is sooooo boring!!!!! So slow!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't really understand the fans' undercurrent of competition between the series'. I follow my favorite drivers when they go to other series, but don't have the time to follow all the venues. It's all I can do to keep up on how they're doing (once they leave the open wheel arena.)
