better question: why do so many men want to miss out on the gift of fatherhood? sure, if you don't want kids-great! take the required measures. but if you bring a child into this world, why would you want to abandon him or her?

edit: shingwhatever-i know it was directed at women, but i was asked for my opinion and i gave it. disagree if you will, but i could care less.

Gnu: not all men show their true colors before they conceive a child with someone. hell, some people don't ever show their true self. sure, a woman should be responsible for her choice making, but we can't always blame her because some guy didn't want a kid. not fair or reasonable.

GNU: i didn't say that it was all the "evil man's" fault. personally, i lose more respect for women or men when they STAY with an ill-suited, abusive partner rather than when someone simply choose a bad partner. we all make mistakes and sometimes it really isn't your fault. why blame the person who has been slighted unless that person chooses to stay and receive repeat abuse?

Most of the regulars here are familiar with my telling of being married for many years to an abusive man (I guess he qualifies as a deadbeat dad, too, in many respects)- but the reason I married him is because I loved him. And as contrary as it may sound to some of you, I still do. I probably always will. We can't be together, this is true...wouldn't be good for him, for me, or for our three kids...but, the fact remains, I do love him. I wouldn't have married him if I didn't. And speaking just for myself here, when I love someone, it's forever. Love follows no "rules"...it doesn't care about wealth...real love is unconditional.

Oxytocin - when a woman has sex, her brain tells her she is in love with the world's most eligible bachelor. He might actually be rather INeligible, but her brain says otherwise. If women waited to have sex until AFTER they decided whether a guy was worth her time or not, there'd be alot less deadbeat dads, IMHO.

I am going to post an answer that is sure to get me a lot of flack, but I've been told I shouldn't restrain myself.

These women are thoughtless and emotionally immature.

They also have been fed from three sources a message of total lack of accountability. These sources are:

1. traditional notions of "romance" telling them that a man will rescue them and to indulge in sentimentality and emotionalism ("love") without thought to the future

2. feminism telling them that they're entitled to everything they want from life to be fulfilled and they should resist attempts to repress or deny them

3. modern media telling them that if it feels go do it, all pleasure seeking with no consequences.

and yes, I know that men engage in irresponsible behavior too. That wasn't the question.

EDIT

It's just as fair and reasonable as the people who tell me I have just chosen the wrong women and therefore had miserable relationships. I recognize the truth of that and I am celibate, because I have the responsibility to avoid these situations.

Of course, the guys are jerks. A lot of them should be locked up. But so many women are ridiculous in their persistent determination to keep chasing "bad boys" when they're young and then to bemoan the unfairness of it all when they're older and all the nice guys they turned up their noses at don't want to be cuckolds after the fact raising her kids, dealing with another man's mess.

EDIT

And this whole, "He didn't show his true colors" business is just more of the unaccountability. It's easier to say women are victimized by these evil, cunning men (and both tradition and feminism will support them in that spin) than to say that she had really f'ed up priorities in choosing men.

yeah good question!!

I agree with Gnu Sense.

"But so many women are ridiculous in their persistent determination to keep chasing "bad boys" when they're young and then to bemoan the unfairness of it all when they're older...."

This is so true. One of the persons i know just broke up with her bf who would be considered by those who know him well as a "bad boy". She is now confused but i think she deserves to be confused as i have already warned her about the possible pitfalls BEFORE she decided to love hiim 'wholeheartdly'.

Dumb women just don't deserve any respect from me......"sigh"

A lot of women want to have kids with a sugar daddy; only thing is it doesn't always happen that way; one cannot control love; when it happens it happens. Fortunately I was one of the lucky ones; many others have been too.
Edit Dao: ha ha on you! My hubby's six months younger; got ya!!

Women don't marry happiness. They marry their fathers. And if their fathers were crap, guess what they marry?

It has been brought to may attention that my answer is unfair. I admit men marry their mothers too. But men don't have babies. And the question was directed at women, not men nor both.
